My reaction was thank God to have been spared this in reality. My folks in Ireland had to decide between London and NY in 1953 and chose the former in the end. Let us give thanks and praise.

I cannot have NVA/VC on display on my shelves. Loads of US Marines and even plans for ARVN if I ever get time. Same applies to Waffen SS, not one single model or figure.

Yes. Modern conflicts are difficult. So when we play them, we do it in the described way. More fictional, Hollywood like.

Ran a VN Force on Force game (Ambush Valley variant) of an American armored column being ambushed. The NVA had the initiative and on the first turn the lead tank hit a mine and was disabled, two of the three M113's were destroyed and one disabled and the last tank had it's main gun put out of action. The tanks and M113's had several squads riding on top.

The stunned look on the American players faces was not surprising and they looked at each other and said "now what do we do?". They were able to organize a defense and used the .50 cal guns to their advantage to suppress the NVA while trying to call in supporting artillery.

The reality is that the NVA most likely would not have stuck around for the artillery but just faded back into the jungle.
