I am starting to work on some HaT 54mm Spanish infantry and I'm a bit confused by some of the odd looking helmets that they wear.

There is one helmet that appears to have something that looks like a havelock hanging down each side of the helmet. Are these horsehair adornments or are they a part of the brass helmet? That is to say, are the things hanging down the sides made of brass and is an integral part of the helmet?

Sorry I don't have a picture to post.

Imperial Romans had hinged metal cheek pieces on their helmets. They also had a neck protector as part of the helmet. Not seeing a picture, I am just thinking of a possibility.

"Strabo says the Lusitanians wore helmets of sinew with a crest, and sculptures in southern Spain and South-west France do show some form of crested cap or hood."

Yes, it's meant to be the (slightly mysterious) sinew helmets.

Yes, the fellow on the left is wearing the mysterious headgear that I'm referring to.

I painted my figures with a rawhide colored cap, ranging from off white to a medium brown.
