Were the School Admins, teachers and parents of these kids so completely insane that they thought it was a good idea to send High School kids to an active war zone, Afghanistan, on a summer vacation/field trip?!?!? Dozens of California students, parents stranded in Afghanistan after summer trip abroad link

Well this crisis just is getting worse. Who made such poor decisions ? That question could be asked of those that thought it would be a nice place to take a summer trip as well. WDF!?!?!? |

It is hard to imagine any parent who has raised a child thinking that this is an appropriate summer destination this or any other year. Did they not realize there had been a May departure deadline, never mind the decades of unstable security? Did not check with the State Department travel list? Follow the news? |

Parents, Teachers, and Students: all nominated for the annual Darwin Awards. I hope they lose the Award… Insanely stupid. Cheers! |

With all the nice places in the world that don't have jihadi/terrorists … What were they thinking !? |

And we are the most intelligent animal on this planet? I wonder. |

hopefully this sort of stupidity might improve their IQ, if it doesn't kill some of them. |

Look around. Lots of people suffer from "it can't happen to me" syndrome. It's a fundamental problem of a lack skill in risk assessment and depending on government and others to "just take care of it". |

I believe many of the travelers have ties/family in Afghanistan. This would make the poor choice to travel there a little more understandable but no less foolish. |

North Korea and Iraq seems to be a popular destination for the intellectually challenged as well. |

They were Afghan ex-pats, naturalized U.S. Going home to see extended family. |

My son is very, very, smart but sometimes…He attended school in Turkey for about 6 months and he actually considered trying to get into Iran just to see it. Thank goodness he ran out of money. |

Sadly, one would think that if they did have relatives or friends there, they would give them an honest appraisal of the sitution in the country, and advise them to stay well away, instead of saying, "sure, come on in, the water's fine" as it boils with ravenous sharks bent on conducting a feeding frenzy. It will be interesting to see how many now "choose" to remain in Afghanistan, in the new Taliban/ISIS/ISIS-K/Al Qaeda run utopia. |

Many just don't seem to understand … Many places with non-secular religious inspired populations & Gov't … are not a place for "Infidels" should go anywhere near. At least not for a very long time. Just because a gov't is "friendly" to the US does not mean all the population is. E.g. Jordan, Egypt, etc.
in the new Taliban/ISIS/ISIS-K/Al Qaeda run utopia. A very "un-civil" war is occurring now and will continue after we leave. None of those terrorists/jihadi groups are friends to the US/the West. We should continue drone strikes on groups like ISIS, AQ, Haqqani network, etc. They a a threat to the US/West, etc. I believe "lone wolf", etc. attacks will start to happen again. And having an open US Southern border only makes it easier for another jihadi terrorist attack coming near to you. And of course they will probably increase in Europe as well. |

Was it the only destination they could get in to without self-isolating? |
