Hi Everyone,

Played a game of HOTT recently which saw Gondor vs Harad. Continuing on from my last Middle Earth game the year is now 2951 of the Third Age 10 years after the Battle of the Five Armies. Sauron was expelled from Dol Guldur in that same year. Now he has revealed himself openly in Mordor. He has sent Nazgul to reclaim Dol Guldur. Perhaps he has sent others elsewhere.

This battle is between Ecthelion the son of the Steward and the forces of Harad who seek to ravage South Ithilien.

Here are a few pictures of the battle. More can be seen on the blog. Hope you can take time to view the entire thing.

All of the figures are a bit old school being Minifigs Mythical Earth, Ral Partha 25mm and Garrison.

I hope you like this. It was a fun game where the forces of Gondor were very battered, but where a sudden victory happened. Glad I didn't destroy the timeline!

Comments and crits welcome.

a fun report. Thank you

Knights in HOTT and DBA is always causes mixed emotions. You keep thinking they should be stronger and Light cav should not hold up a heavy horse unit.

But the historical mind can think of many times they did.

Kropotkin303.

Please sir, NEVER, EVER, EVER GIVE A BATTLE REPORT ON A HOTT GAME WITHOUT SHARING ARMY LISTS! ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!

That said, very nice setup. I prefer games like this, where the terrain is not too cluttered.

Superb

Thanks guys on the feedback. Glad you liked the battle.

The make up of the armies was the same for both sides.

Hero Generals – Ecthelion and Nazgul 4 pt
2 x Knights – Dol Amroth and Haradrim 4 pt
2 x Shooters – Rangers of Ithilien and Harad bows 4 pt
2 x Blades – Men of Gondor and Haradrim Scimiters 4 pt
4 x Spears – Men of Gondor and Harad spears 8 pt

24 pt each

Interesting. Lind if odd to see an even matchup like that in HOTT. I think I couldn't have resisted throwing some Mumakil into the mix.

Again, fun game!

Thanks Gorgrat…..The Mumakil are for later…..When things get HOTTer.

I do love me some old school true 25s! Really lovely and inspiring.

Although I'm sort of with Gorgrat, in leaning towards a bit of asymmetry. If you wanted to try something different using the same armies, you could make the Haradrim horse as Riders and their swordsmen as Warband.

Hi Eumelus,

I agree that asymmetry makes for a more dynamic battle. My Haradrim are spear, blade, bows, knights because when I will use them combined with Mordor troops they will be more rider/warband/horde types.Oh and the Mumakil adds a bit of spice too.

I don't have Corsairs of Umbar at the moment but I could see them as being warband I think.
