Are you limiting yourself to pre-existing projects, or are you launching new endeavors?

Thresher0125 Aug 2021 9:21 a.m. PST

Of course, always.

Doesn't everyone???

BillyNM25 Aug 2021 9:23 a.m. PST

If not actually starting I'll be planning something new.

King Monkey25 Aug 2021 9:23 a.m. PST

No

Moving into 20mm modern.

ccmatty Supporting Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 9:34 a.m. PST

Ugh. I am now moving into 28mm WWII – North Africa and Pacific Theater. This after promising myself, my wife and the man upstairs that I would not do anything until my 20mm WWII (NW Europe) project is complete and my Fate of a Nation Arab/Israeli wars project is complete…

Gear Pilot25 Aug 2021 9:38 a.m. PST

Nothing new. Just adding to existing.

Personal logo Extra Crispy Sponsoring Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 9:43 a.m. PST

No. At this point I paint troops for fun. I already have more troops than I can game with.

I do add to armies if a game/scenario requires unit(s) I don't have.

DisasterWargamer Supporting Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 9:45 a.m. PST

Adding more to what I have already

rustymusket25 Aug 2021 9:51 a.m. PST

Adding to what I have but planning for a new possibility for next year.

advocate25 Aug 2021 9:55 a.m. PST

Not right now. Who knows what might come up in the near or middle future?

Prince Rupert of the Rhine25 Aug 2021 9:56 a.m. PST

Having finished my new gaming room I'm staying strong and finishing off the various half painted projects I have. I started doing this earlier in the year but didn't finish all them before I started on renovating the gaming room. I'm finishing off a few sci-fi miniatures at the moment, then I have an army of Picts to finish, a bunch of Deathguard for 40k and then a couple of units of early Imperial Romans.

After that who knows I have figures already for several potential new projects but my head is always coming up with cool new things I'd like to do…

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 10:02 a.m. PST

Nope – just dug out about 100 plus Boxer Rebellion figs that need painting plus 3 SYW cavalry regiments so this little white duck has lots to do without anything new

Personal logo Virtualscratchbuilder Supporting Member of TMP Fezian25 Aug 2021 10:25 a.m. PST

There is a lot on the pile now, but just ordered a box of Mantic Dwarves and some printed lizardmen off Etsy… may go in those directions this fall.

Pretty much just expanding my existing forces for 15+ periods! The big problem right now is getting everyone to agree on rules, scale, and what to play as the "Look at the new, shiny thing!" syndrome has taken over. I would like to get everyone back into playing campaigns, but with everyone getting distracted each week by some new game it's just about impossible.

Choctaw25 Aug 2021 10:34 a.m. PST

I just bought a new-to-me flintlock rifle which is requiring most of my free time.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 10:36 a.m. PST

2x completely new projects going on. Also looking to complete a third project I've had going for a while.

Personal logo Stosstruppen Supporting Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 10:45 a.m. PST

Recently started a project, but, I had the figures for a fe=ew years. For the most part (at least 95%) I am sticking to existing projects.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 10:54 a.m. PST

If I have a fieldable force, starting new ones for that force is not an existing project.

Just got my 28mm Perry Franco Prussian Plastic Prussian infantry boxes. I already have LARGE forces for the 1870 campaign in 15mm. So same war, different scale.

TMPWargamerabbit25 Aug 2021 11:33 a.m. PST

Finishing up 20mm FOW Italian for Italian East Africa games and then move into Syria 1941 with some painted French and Free French alongside Aussies.

At sea the group is playing bi-monthly Victory at Sea British vs. German using our enlarging 1/700 fleets. We simply treble the gunnery ranges and ship movements vs. the 1/1800 game setup.

Lastly, Conversion of the large 25/28mm WSS collection ongoing for more WSS battles using the new formatted group rules.

jdpintex25 Aug 2021 11:59 a.m. PST

Not necessarily new, but I am adding to two or three existing projects.

And am still expanding my WOTR project (working on second side).

Personal logo ColCampbell Supporting Member of TMP25 Aug 2021 12:30 p.m. PST

No, just trying to get some of my many projects a little closer to some sense of completion.

KSmyth25 Aug 2021 12:46 p.m. PST

Trying not to add anything new. However the lure the next shiny thing is strong.

Chimpy25 Aug 2021 1:21 p.m. PST

How about an extension to an existing project? I just ordered some Egyptians for my Sudan project which already has British and Beja.

Otherwise I'm trying to restrain myself and actually reduce the unpainted models pile.

Grelber25 Aug 2021 1:35 p.m. PST

Of course I'm starting some new things!
I just started working on a Red Army to investigate the Tunguska event.
I think that's fair--I just finished painting a Scots army.

I hope never to start another period/scale combination. A man only has so much time and storage.

But I am moving to complete and improve existing stuff. I just finished upgrading my rivers--no more space but better looking--and I'm going through each army, raising forces to target strength, or figuring out what the target strength ought to be. Check back with me when I can see the end of the painting queue.

Schogun25 Aug 2021 5:35 p.m. PST

No. Trying to downsize collections.

Several years ago I stopped starting new projects.

That's reduced the number of new projects down to about one per year.

Despite my feeble attempt to resist I have jumped into Zombiecide 2, Walking Dead, and Marvel Crisis Protocol. We're also going to take the Hobbits across their journey. Terrain and figs for that one.

Augustus25 Aug 2021 9:57 p.m. PST

Trying to shift to everything 20mm met as l. Foolish? Maybe. But the scale works for me.

In the midst of buying my last miniatures collection – 15 mm WWI German East Africa courtesy QRF miniatures – I also bought into Bluemoon's new Indian Mutiny release but that is a period I've had plenty of figures for for ages now. My 'starting something new' will soon be not buying more stuff, just painting what I have and playing with that. And, hopefully, enjoying a long and fruitful retirement.

Except for some sailors for my Germans, I have all I need for German and Askaris, British and KAR. Unless you count the yet to be released Ruga-ruga and porters, will be adding those. And then I will add some Belgians and Portuguese once those are out. Order the Mutineers from Bluemoon when they are released. Order plenty of the African "scenics" coming from QRF for both GEA and the earlier colonial period. Some stuff from Peter Pig to wrap up my Old West (via their Mexican Revolution figures I will repurpose.) And then done.

And, please, spare me the never done buying nonsense. 36,000 plus figures is considerably more than enough.

Stocked up real well on metal bases even. May need more in several years.

More paint, brushes, glue, texture materials, and grass tufts, sure. But otherwise done.

Very, very few things could even remotely tempt me. Once above is purchased, all I've considered over the last few decades will reside in my collections. And those few things I do want no one makes, I have the stuff to convert.

Imagine having all you want and then enjoying that without further temptation? Seems an ideal place to me.

I try very hard not to, but sometimes I am not successful. Sometimes success is starting 3 new projects instead of 10 new projects.

Beaky Nose26 Aug 2021 8:35 a.m. PST

I'm working out a force for Stargrave and seeing if I can turn it into the start of an army for Xenos Rampant. I've got some time on my side for Xenos Rampant as its not out until 2022.

I'm also rebuying various smaller scale armies I sold off and regret.

Grelber26 Aug 2021 10:16 a.m. PST

79thPA +1

mildbill26 Aug 2021 10:31 a.m. PST

I am just trying not to start anything that I have already done and then sold it off. I am looking at you WWII russians!

Dagwood26 Aug 2021 11:47 a.m. PST

I have just started painting a "1066" project, beginning with Welsh and Viking figures I bought back in the 80s ! Does that count as starting a new project ?

Normans and Saxons next !

(Then maybe Scottish and Irish ….)

huron725 Supporting Member of TMP26 Aug 2021 12:47 p.m. PST

YES! 54mm (1/32ish) WW2 US Army and Germans for skirmish gaming. Just have to figure out buildings/terrain.

14th NJ Vol26 Aug 2021 6:20 p.m. PST

Just started 28mm War of 1812 for Muskets & Thomahawks then same rules for Napoleonic Spanish campaign. Then I think I'll expand these to Black Powder,.

Swampking27 Aug 2021 9:51 a.m. PST

Well, let's see – been trying to finish up the 1792 Russo-Polish War project for a year now – getting closer everyday.

I just finished painting my first Jacobite (he was a test – just to see how exactly to paint a plaid jacket) for the '45, and finally finished purchasing most of the minis for the 1848 Hungarian War in 15mm. I still need to get some Serbs and Serbian command for that project but I've got enough to keep me busy for the next year.

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP27 Aug 2021 4:53 p.m. PST

When I turned 60 a few years back, I decided that I had plenty of projects that were languishing, so I would not start anything new and in fact I divested my self of those projects that were unlikely to finished (and used the cash to have some figures I wanted done by a painting service).

So, while I have continued to purchase miniatures and terrain, they all support projects I am doing, even if the project is pretty broad (like my 20mm WWII project).

So my mantra continues to be "just say no" to new projects.

SHaT198428 Aug 2021 4:30 p.m. PST

I got sick of waiting; so in deference to my friends with whom I do play:
-a resurrection of 25mm medievals on the way;
-a resurrection of antique micro 1/300 -WWII force I'd always wanted since THEY play it often (usually modern but I'm just not interested in that)
-the 70+ mini-projects of my Napoleonic creation that need completion, hopefully before I die!
