Up to the age of 18 it would have been post-nuclear war (Traveler, Twilight 2000/2300, Car Wars, Ogre/Gev, Gamma World, the Morrow Project, etc…). For my 18th birthday I received a gift from my girlfriend in the way of a new rule book called, "Rogue Trader". I've pretty much exclusively been playing in the Grimdark setting ever since. |

Add Ogre/GEV to the poll. Barsoom for skirmish, and after that homebrew. Worth noting that an interesting story or world to watch or read about is not necessarily tactically interesting--and that you don't need much world-building for a wargame as long as the tactical possibilities are clear. |

Started with Car Wars. Still has influence for anything post-pockylypse. Used to be Battletech when I was young. Has influence to a degree now. Then Heavy Gear. But that waned once the original DP9ers left in the early 2000s. Now either hard edge cyberpunk with mecha or something far out and quite alien like Five Star Stories. Star Wars is there of course, but I am so disgusted over the Disney handling just can't stand to look at it much. |

In reverse order … Postapoc – Survive, Scrounge, Rebuild Lost in Space – Not necessarily the clssic TV series (the new one was awesome), but the stranded scifi guys, similar to the postapoc theme STL Interstellar – The isolated empires. Logan's Run – No Sandman ever ran! POTA! |

Like a lot of what I see above. I'll throw Infinity, Aliens, Renegade Legion and the Expanse settings into the mix. I'll double down on Heavy Gear, Battletech, Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Starship Troopers, Babylon 5, and Hammer's Slammers. |

Home brewed settings all the way. Depending on the genre, they may have ingredients sifted from a huge variety of sources: the Witcher, the Stalker PC games, Eclipse Phase RPG, a William Gibson novel or a cool short sci fi film I saw on Vimeo. |

I've run several John Carter of Mars games at cons so +1 for Barsoom. My old group played several "Traveller" games when it was introduced & enjoyed it. I've got a stack of rules expansions & scenario books somewhere. We also played some THW "5150" & I've run 1 or 2 "Future Tales" convention games. |

"Traveller needs a really good game system …" Yeah, miniature gaming was not it's bright spot IMO. Back in the day, I tried Snapshot using the big FASA deck plans. I never regretted giving away Snapshot, but I have regretted for 20+ years giving away all my deck plans! Played the bageebies out of the RPG though! (I also should mention Azhanti High Lightning. Same as Snapshot IMO, but I loved the ship! Now I'm depressed.) WizKids MechWarrior Dark Age. (Hersey, I know, but I like the setting more than the Inner Sphere.) Goofy game system, though. Shadowrun. (Yes, it was a miniatures game once upon a time. Also played all versions of the RPG except current version.) There is more, but I'd just be repeating stuff. |

Traveller is my favorite setting for games, and there a lot of great miniatures out there from spaceships to grav and other vehicles to troopers in a variety of scales. For small skirmishes, I prefer Mongoose and Traveller SRD. For platoon to company level action, I prefer StarGrunt, but Striker 1 and 2 are both still pretty good. Nothing has really quite satisfied me for Traveller space combat. Mayday is OK for small ship engagements. Full Thrust plays well, but doesn't feel like Traveller. Power Projection doesn't play as well. High Guard / Trillion Credit Squadron is actually fun in its own abstract way. |

Generic. Sometimes Outlandishly Big. Www,thegobspage.com And, from the above sometimes silly. I'm not a fan of 40K or its setting, but I love Space Hulk. A Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers setting would be great fun. I also play Steve Jackson Games' Frag, which is simple, silly, and fun. Not so much a setting as a spoof of FPS computer games like DOOM. |
