This is the sort of thing that tempts me to sell all my 15mm US paratroopers and go upscale skirmish – 25mm or similar

No need to sell the little ones.

25mm/28mm troops in skirmish quantities are NOT too expensive in most cases, save for the occasional odd set of rules and "collectors priced" minis, which run $6.00 USD+ each, which is far too rich for my budget.
