Today my friend and I played a game of Vanguard, the skirmish game set in the Kings of War universe. My Orcs and her Kingdom of Men met at the old abandoned lookout compound. It's a fun and quick set of rules that are easy to teach but still deep enough to add variety to playlists. By turn 4 she had dismantled half my crew whereas I was only able to eliminate her one cavalry unit. However, I was able to obtain 2 objective markers to her one so there was still hope. After her wizard vaporized one of my 3 wound Morax units I realized I had to switch over to a more defensive strategy. It didn't help!

I like the wooden walkways--presumably improvised by your orcs!

Nice! What did you think of the Vanguard rules?

Thanks all!

javelin98 – I love the rules for what they are. It's a quick and efficient game that I can teach and have folks playing in no time at all. The power dice add an extra layer of strategy by allowing extra dice to be used for attacks and defense, etc. as well as special abilities. The exploding 8's always add some fun tension to the combat rolls as well. I find it to be a great entry level miniature game for bringing new players into hobby. It's also a game where we spend more time playing than we do looking at the rule book and that's always a bonus!
