The best games allow the worst loser in the game to have some option of being able to claim some sort of win, if nothing more than lasting longer or taking fewer (or inflicting more) casualties than a historical outcome. Can't be guaranteed but needs to be option. None of us play intent on getting beat down. |

None of us play intent on getting beat down. We play the Battle of Puebla (being specific, the third French assault up the hill) every year. Sometimes more than once. Simply put, the French are going to lose. But like you post hints at, French "player" victory is not French "army" victory. French success is measured in how close to the forts you get. Mexican success is how quickly you can put the French to bed or how few losses you can take doing so. And … one time of several dozen, the French actually won (took both forts). |
