Impressive – I hope they hold off on the human sacrifice thing

I don't get it. If they are marking 500 years since Spanish conquest, shouldn't they build a statue of a Spanish conquistador or a Spanish church? Building an Aztec pyramid implies that the Aztecs did something awesome 500 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool structure and probably a worthy effort, I just don't get the symbolism.

I kind of doubt that they want to build a statue honoring a conquering army. It is a celebration of who they were.

"Who they were" apparently also being murderous, fanatical religious conquerors.

All our ancestors were horrible to each other at one time or another. It just all depends on where one decides to take the snapshot.

Cool building, though. I wonder if they actually do describe what happened on those things?

"Lopez Obrador had previously sought an apology from Spain and the Vatican for human rights abuses committed during the conquest of what is modern-day Mexico."

You're (Mexico) looking for an apology for "human rights abuses"?

This coming from the perspective of a culture that conducted human sacrifice of prisoners and slaves? That killed untold thousands in most brutal ways for entertainment and religious ceremony?

and you want an apology for "human rights abuses"?

I am laughing so hard.

Oh, ya.

Cool building.

Still not going back to Mexico.

7 trips in past, Cancun, TJ's and Juarez.

Belize was fun, keys are amazing, Belize City was …. different.

I know the museums in Mexico City don't gloss over the warfare and human sacrifice. Lots of displays of skulls, and skull racks, and sacrificial blades.

Thought it would be bigger. How many B movies will be filmed on it?

Maybe they're going to destroy it later!

Interesting replica. But nobody really misses the Aztecs or their culture.

Nobody.

Seeing as the Spanish were absorbed into the local population wouldn't a statue of a conquistador just be everyone's ancestor?

>Thought it would be bigger.
Its scaled down. The original would be three times the height for 27times the mass.
