I was searching TMP for info on Somerled and I came across an old post from you about a project you were working on several years ago. I am interested in knowing how it turned out. I have my own army I have been working on – on and off – and got motivated by the pics I saw. I particularly liked how that one unit had a mix of shield types. That looks like a good way do show a unit of mixed Norse & Gaels that would fit right in. |

Hi Korvessa, wow that was about 9 years ago. I'd love to say it went well but sadly, like many of my projects, it went to the big lead pile in the sky. I think I managed three units and two command bases :( My own take on it was that the Irish sea area, at the time, including the coast of Western and Northern Scotland, Isle of Mann the Scottish islands and Ireland was still much influenced by the Norse. From what I can tell Scandinavia was slightly behind Europe with military equipment and round shields continued in use much later than elsewhere in Europe. Also Ostmen Ireland liked to paint their shields Red. I did find a couple of old pictures from the project
