Hi, fairly straightforward question, I am looking for easy play ruleset, skirmish style, not really interested in Pte. Johnston has x amount of ammunition though.

What would you recommend, I had thought of Ambush Alley from Osprey – the supplement book was reasonably priced. Main rulebook is looking at $125 USD on ebay.

I've played some pretty fun games of Force on Force, using the Vietnam supplement. I like that I always come away from those games with a very vivid sense of a story of what happened.

My group uses Spectre Operations. They do a good job of conventional vs guerilla forces. They're jungle warfare supplement gives good flavor to games.

Lots to choose from

Maybe consider "Men of Company B" by Peter Pig.
Very innovative and a big hit at the shows.

I always liked Giac My, a game from the 1970s.

Hah! "Giac My" – the fact that we are both aware of this rule set DEFINITELY dates us. I was at one time briefly acquainted with the author, who (IIRC) was a certified graduate of the US government's 12 month Vietnam familiarization program.

I am using a variant of Crossfire for Vietnam

Still playing 'GI'AC MY'!

It can be easily modified to reduce or eliminate levels of detail such as tracking ammo levels.

If going up a level from individual figures to Squad Bases I would second MajorB's recommendation for the 'CrossFire!' variant.

Ciaphas,

Please let me know what you choose. I am interested in landing on a rule set for Vietnam era as well.

Good luck.

PS – the new releases of miniatures for this era are amazing – Empress and Gringo 40 are putting out incredible miniatures.

I use the Ambush Alley supplement for Force on Force for Vietnam and although I've had to tweak the armor rules somewhat I do like the rules overall…I think you can get a digital version of Force on Force for much less than a physical copy.

We use what my wife calls 'ALBLIBA'….A Little Bit Like Bolt Action – we've made so many amendments it's hardly recognisable.

ccmatty, the FLGS managed to track down a copy of force on force as well as the ambush ally supliment, eagerly awaiting Empress figures and vehicles from Butlers.

I highly recommend the Vietnam variant for Force on Force…been using it for over two years.

4th for ambush alley. That book is great just as a source even if you don't use force on force. Which is a great rule set.
