Was on the Donnington site yesterday looking for some Xyston figures when I noted their announcement that they have just released The Armies of Islam in their New Era ranges. I have been thinking of building the army of Saladin and intended to use Legio Heroica but this range has made me rethink. Lots of variety and some very cool figures, especially the command. Their is an excellent Saladin and a very nice Turcoman commander with a hawk on his wrist. Lots of different kinds of Mamluks/Ghilmen reflecting the armour in vogue at different times. Anyway, well worth a look. |

Some nice figures in there, especially in the camps and baggage section. I did think some of the heads on some of the Islamic cavalry seemed a bit on the large side. Reminded me a bit of the old Mike's Models figures. |

Actually, these have been out for some time. I can remember seeing them at a show, and I haven't been to one of those since March of 2020. They are very nice figures. |

Yes, that's an old News announcement; the figures have been on the site for a couple of years at least. I had commissioned a painted Early Islamic/Andalusian army back in June of 2019. They were running slow on completing it. Then the pandemic hit. Wales had been under some pretty strict lockdowns, and their painting service went on hold. They're back and painting this summer. Not sure if they're running short-handed or not, but I'm still waiting… |

I have a few "New Era" Early Anglo-Saxons and the are quite nice in my opinion. I have some later Anglo-Danes on the way to me now. |

I got some of the "New Era" Andalusian and Berber infantry a year or so ago. They are very nice. I couldn't resist some of the civilians too… Cheers, John |

thats quite a selection. Are they not quite a bit smaller than legio heroica? |
