Looks pretty good. Glad to see a topic not often covered.

Very much agree.

So do you use WWII Americans as Dutch, and rifle armed ZANLA for Indonesians?

British 14th Army figures with US helmets and caps for regular infantry and paratroopers. USMC-style leggings were also popular, but IIRC (it's been over ten years since I attempted to game the IWI) webbing was almost always British.

Was it a Malaya type conflict? Doesn't seem to be much written about it.

If you are ever in Arnhem visiting World War 2 sites you should also visit Museum Brombeek which covers the Netherland's colonial history and has uniforms and equipment from the war in Indonesia.

From what reading I've done, it seems like a conflict where one has to choose to ignore the reality and just play the game, or else not game it at all.

Allied invasion fleet used capitulated Japanese troops as security forces against separatist terrorists in Dutch East Indies:

Jstor – Sleeping with the Enemy: Britain, Japanese Troops and the Netherlands East Indies, 1945–1946 ANDREW ROADNIGHT

From: History net – Dutch Waffen SS

Some Dutch Waffen-SS veterans apparently regained their citizenship by fighting in Indonesia in 1945-49 against independence fighters seeking to overthrow the Dutch colonial regime.

This was not like the Malayan Emergency – that was against subversion by Communists from the Chinese community.

I used to work with a salesman who was a subaltern in the Green Jackets during the brief war between Malaya and Indonesia:

Wiki – Borneo Conflict

Enemy troops had been observed in a kampong. So Chris called down some artillery/mortar fire. He made a mess of the coordinates and blew up the midden instead of the village. Of course, when inspected, that was where the enemy were hiding. He was a very modest man and was embarrassed when made Mess Champion.

Interesting. According to the comments on the YouTube link the character referred to as The Turk in the trailer is this individual:

I definitely want to see this movie.

It's supposed to be on Amazon Prime. I looked earlier, and could not locate it.

Nick, I just checked the movie site and it's being released on August 13th. Available on Amazon and Apple and many other providers. More info here:

Planning on watching this morning, I'll report back.
Looking at sets on Plastic Soldier Review, I think Korean War Chinese and Korean communist forces for the Indonesian rebels. British commonwealth troops with US helmets for the Dutch.
