Having moved from Ancients and equipped most of our armies from Perrys and Victrix, we are looking for a source of 28mm Empress dragoons and Guard Chasseurs a Cheval. Using Victrix guard lancers and Perry dragoon heads was considered but the shoulder braids are on the wrong side, so that did not work. Victrix are about to release some French dragoons but from the forums, these will be line dragoons and a repeat of the Perry figures only on more dynamic sources. So it looks like metal. Recommendations welcome! |

Hi Mutford, Ok where to start. Firstly, Perry miniatures have both the Empress Dragoons and the Chassuers a cheval in their metal range. Unfortunately the Guard Chassuers are in campaign dress not full dress. I am converting guard chassuers by adding plastic pellisse's from their hussar set and making plumes from green stuff and magic sculpt. A simpler option would be to use Front rank miniatures which are beautiful figures but slightly bigger then perry. Another option would be to use Wargame Foundry figures, the riders are similar in size but the horses are shorter. I simply put a 2mm shive under the horse figure to make up for the size difference. Lastly you could check Eagle figures as I believe they may have their own Guard cavalry figures and are fairly close in size and style to the Perrys. Hope this helps,I'm sure others may have a few suggestions that could prove useful at some point. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out. Cheers Joe |

>>Unfortunately the Guard Chassuers are in campaign dress not full dress. Well that was the way they went in to battle. Contrary to your desire, it has become the norm though not that difficult to steer around. For my Austerlitz campaign army, I've had to modify and recast models since, for that exact reason, they are unique and correct. Plenty of officers and others to pose in full dress, which was for parades and state/ ceremonial occassions anyway. And it's spelled 'Chasseurs' by the way in French; And yes "the shoulder braids" are actually called aiguilettes; braid is something completely different. And for the OP bear in mind the Dragons were only ever issued the habit- no other such second dress apart from stable jackets; for either 'old' or 'young' Guard- Rousellot recanted his first plates information in a later edition. But don't let my pedantic utterings spoil your day, cheers d |

There are a ton of different companies making French Napoleonics. Surely one of these must make what you are after… link |

Thanks Joe, a good response. It probably means Perrys although I still have memories of painting several squadrons of their metal red lancers which were a pain to paint compared to the Victrix polish lancers which had far more detail. Odd to think that all those years ago when I started with Airfix, metal figures were the dream and now many decades later, I am ditching the metals and replacing them with plastics. |

You could also try the Connoisseur figures, available from Bicorne |

@Lambert. I had forgotten Peter Gilder's spin off range from Hinchliffe. I even had a regiment of Empress Dragoons back in the 1980s but gave them away when I went to ancients. There must be a moral here somewhere :) |
