Not so much the Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment, which was formed in 1992 after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact, but the Queen's Regiment which, with the Royal Hampshire Regiment, was one of the constituent regiments of POWRR. The Queen's Regt was itself a large regiment formed in 1966, from the union of four regiments (themselves amalgamated corps)- The Queen's Own Buffs, The Royal Kent Regiment, The Royal Sussex Regiment, and The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) POWRR is in fact the repository of the traditions of twelve antecedent regiments of the line extant in 1881: 2nd (Queen's Royal) [The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey)] 3rd (Buffs) [The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment)] 31st (Huntingdonshire) [The East Surrey Regiment] 35th (Royal Sussex) [The Royal Sussex Regiment] 37th (North Hampshire [The Royal Hampshire Regiment] 50th (Queen's Own [The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment] 57th (West Middlesex [The Middlesex Regiment] 67th (South Hampshire [The Royal Hampshire Regiment] 70th (Surrey) Regiment [The East Surrey Regiment] 77th (East Middlesex) [The Middlesex Regiment] 97th (Earl of Ulster's) [The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment] 107th (Bengal Infantry) [The Royal Sussex Regiment] So it goes… |
