Stage 2 of my Peninsular Project has all arrived safe and sound over the last few of weeks. My lead pile looks respectable again and I can hold my shiny head high. A touch over 800 figures not including horses, guns or limbers.

I just need to finish the last 4 units (of 99) for stage 1 and I can crack on with this lot.

I've done a post on my plans for the Spanish infantry. Link

That will be a great looking project when it is done. If I ever build a Spanish army, I will have to include some white coated regiments.

Well, that's a relief! I live in dread of some miniature wargamer experiencing lead insecurity.

You're a sick puppy James, such a drive will land you in hospital!

>> This is slightly more skirmishers than they will often field but I want to make the collection as flexible as I can.

I agree that creating such elements at inception adds much to the flexibility of forces. In my own case of an 1805 French corps I'm 'backdating' by creating some new elements of units to appear as 'Republican' troops, now that the 'Rev period' is much more accessible to us.

As you know Dave, my modus operandi is atypical.

Although I've been known to slip an order in for a cheeky £250.00 GBP worth at Christmas / Birthday / both sometimes, I tend to go all in to tie me to a project.

I want an army? I do it with one big order: as this would have been if Front Rank weren't having to ration supply to £300.00 GBP max per order (because of Covid). This order was put in as four orders over a weekend, which they processed, one order a week, for a month (after prior consultation). After everything was in, I followed with up with a slightly smaller fifth order to tidy things up (I always make small mistakes, like missing some horses, remembering I need flag tops with cords, etc.).

Actually, this isn't a bad piece of advice. Always hold back a reasonable part of the order until everything else is in – that way, you are not just ordering 7 horses and flag tops (my mistakes with this order, the latter simply forgotten at first). My first four orders were for as close to £300.00 GBP as I could get, the fifth was for £250.00 GBP ish.

I'm never tempted by 'new shiny' unless it's part of my overall plan, and even then I tend to hold fire. So don't expect any Sudan or Sung Chinese anytime soon. Remember, this order was two or three years in the planning. Whilst I'm painting this lot, my next project is simply in the planning stage.

This will be my figure purchases, except for the odd cheeky order (possibly to add to the early Crusades collection), for the next two or three years. Even if I go to show, I'll probably only buy a bag of dice or a book.

Discipline boys, steady now……

Oh, and before you go £1,450.00 GBP – BLEEP! If I don't buy anything else for two years, that's less than £15.00 GBP a week. Yep, I'm saving up for the next one again!

Impressive is an understatement.

Even truer, apart from 30ish years collecting of various stuff, after ceasing play at conventions and wotnot I sold off my 15mm multiple armies complete w scenics etc and only do my core raison d'etre.
Well until someone returned my neophyte Burgundians (Med) and I've been forced to co-exist with micro players (WWII)…
