Anyone know what happened to the line of ships?

I placed an order just before CinC sold the line off and did not get several boxes of convoy ships. Have given that up as a loss, but would like to buy them again if possible.

Randy claimed at that time that someone had bought the line and would be producing the ships, plus additional models to be added to it and even reproducing the set of rules he'd made for the ships back in the 1970s.

I would like to know also. I like this scale for WW2 and prefer metal.

Make that me as well. I have a bunch of them and would love to see more. Shapeways has some really good stuff available in 1/4800 but the CinC stuff was/is about perfect.

Per the CinC website, everything they sold went to:

legionsivhire.ca/index.php

The 4800s aren't listed, so I guess they're still working up.

If I recall correctly, the 1/4800 stuff was not sold to legionsivhire, but to two guys in CO. They were suppose to be also putting the CinC "North Cape" game and rules back into print (I lost my copy in a move in the 80s).

The Shapeway ships are nice, but they cost more and are really fragile.

Randy had also told me that he planned to do more ships and mentioned US and Japanese, which I'd love to see in 1/4800.

I opted for 1/3000th. Hallmark and Fujimi have a bucket load and the price is reasonable. Somewhere around here I think I still have the two sides for Jutland from CinC from long ago-unpainted. Would be nice to get opponents for WWII from the new owners. Since I am now back in Colorado, I will have to seek out who bought that range. Will report if/when I find out.

Here is a link showing just one of the Fujimi ship kits. Each set contains many ships. Painting instructions refer to Mr. Color acrylic and laquer references.

What blows be away are the PAINTED and decaled 1/3000th scale aircraft! They also come with the carrier deck decals and two sections of hard plastic sea that can be clipped together.

Each listed on this site shows photos of set contents. There must be close to 30 sets. JNSDF modern task forces are also listed as well as naval base dioramas in some. I drew the line at trying the photo etch sets in this scale!

Anyway, if you are into naval wargaming in WWII or Modern, here is another source for highly detailed pieces for your fleets.

Shipping can be expensive (but fast if DHL is selected) otherwise shipping from Japan can take a while. My order came in less than a week!

I will next order from Hallmark in the UK (website but cannot order off it- must FAX or send via mail.) I have some of their 1/3000th ships from when we carried some in our gamestore- Attactix, to check them out back in the late 1990s. Also very nice (metal) castings- sharp, clean and still reasonably priced (IMHO). Once placed on your game table, I doubt it matters if your ships are plastic or metal.

Hope this info helps someone.

@Dan Cyr,

What you just posted is also what I vaguely remember, including the part about how CinC was thinking of doing more 1/4800 metal ships.

However I didn't get a reply to my recent email, using the link on his web page, so who knows?

Ah, too bad. We are waiting on two guys in CO then. I also find Shapeways to be too fragile and have broken things from there before ever even painting them. Although maybe its me.

Dye4, I like the look and selection of ships from Fujimi myself, but even 1/3000 does not give me enough of a feeling of WW2 distance between ships on the table. This is not really about trying for scale, I just like it to seem like there is some significant distance. between ships.

I find 1/6000 to be too small to see. 1/4800 looks just right on my 4x6 table.

I was able to purchase several sets of 1/4800 ships directly from CinC, in 2021. It was not fast, but really troubleless.

Ps: they are niiiice.

Just got an email from Randy to say that the ships I ordered at the end of June were shipped (to the UK) on 18 August.

For future orders, he pointed me to:

Minis available for order on their own (with the usual caveats re. Kickstarters). Looks interesting….
