"The creation of the Volkssturm was a desperate measure taken by the German authorities in late 1944 as the war was going badly and the Allies were moving on the Third Reich from both east and west. This new militia contained all men between 16 and 60 not already called up to military service, so included all ages, but particularly the old and the very young. This was not ideal basic material for an effective military force, but when you add in very motley weaponry, little training and poor morale, the result was inevitably of very little use in the war effort. However they served in large numbers in the last months of the war, particularly on the eastern front and in the final battle for Berlin, mentioned on the box artwork…"

Often read on this site "Plastic, Very hard" Do they mean that these are polystyrene, like our models, and can be glued with bog standard polystyrene cement?

Zvezda infantry figures are the same "hard plastic" as their model kits like tanks or planes.

Now that is worth knowing.

No one expects Airfix or Italaeri figures to stick together with any adhesive for example. Even NASA adhesives for heat shields would last five minutes on them.

But something you can bond with polystyrene cement. I thought the only ones were that range that is far too big and so disappointing as they are well done. I found they glued wonderfully and made great conversions but I binned them as useless with 20mm or 1/72 AFVs..their name will come to me….

Yep. Followed the Plastic Soldier link. Valiant. Great figures and useless to any of us. Well US Infantry anyway. Massive figures

I think you might be a little out of date there. These days a number of adhesives are available that work perfectly well on soft plastic figures. For example Selleys All Plastic Fix will give a super glue strength bond. It consists of a primer pen and a tube of glue – you just rub the primer against both surfaces before applying a small amount of the glue.

The grenadier with the STG44 was very lucky for being so unlucky. Being beyond Volksturm age gives me a mild sense of comfort. But then, modern times……..
