"Communist Party officials in northwestern China appear to be advocating a "continuous" atomic bombing of Japan after their social media account shared a controversial viral video over the weekend.

Still live on the YouTube-like platform Xigua, under an account run by the Baoji Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the video calls for Beijing to launch nuclear strikes on Japan if Tokyo intervenes in a Chinese invasion of democratic Taiwan.

The five-minute clip was created by verified military commentary channel "Liujun Taolue."…"

So, this would be something like the Houston city council retweeting something deeply stupid.

Glad that never happens here.

Incidentally, Baoji has three sister cities in Japan!

That will be when the World finds out if Japan has a secret nuclear weapons program.

If I was a Japanese leader, I would immediately start a nuclear weapons program. Don't want to bring a knife to a gun fight!

emmckinney--City councils rarely speak for a nation in the US. In China, it could be a trial balloon to announce their new nuclear policy, which seems to be nuking Japan if they dare to assist Taiwan when (not if) China invades. Pretty sobering thought.

Thresher0117 Jul 2021 8:31 a.m. PST

Sounds like a reasonable justification for a preemptive strike.

I tend to believe people when they make threats, and people in China don't post stuff without the approval of the leaders there, since that could be fatal if their comments are not officially sanctioned by those in charge.

Well said Thresher.

Totally agree. This was approved at the highest level. In our own country it is not unknown for a lower member of the presidential staff to make a statement just to test the reaction.

You bet!….

China knows they have entered a time when they can get away with saying things like that. Sad.

No need for a nuke response, just mock them. Some enterprising person should release an "official video" of the CCP eating a panda. Try to live that down…

Better than going full Ozzy Ozborn and eating a bat.

Too soon? :)
