I looked up "Eurogame" and I still don't what is different. I do not play much in the way of board games, though.

WTF are Eurogames?!?!

Catan, Carcassone – that kind of thing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catan

Stryderg09 Jul 2021 8:44 p.m. PST

The kind of game where you are essentially playing solo, trying to get more victory points than the other players. Not a lot of direct confrontation, maybe even some cooperation.

Risk, Checkers and Chess are not Eurogames.
Tiny Towns, Scythe and Ticket To Ride would be Eurogames

Board Game Geek has a solid definition:

Catan is a very 'light' Eurogame and has more elements of player interaction than many.

Ticket to Ride is also a very light Euro where strategy on where to claim routes is definitely based on player interaction and with a strong component of risk-management in deciding when to draw tickets or face-down cards.

Carcasonne I think of more as a tile-placement game than a Euro. It can have a fair amount of player-interaction with jostling and competition for position, and a notable luck element in the draw of the tiles.

Puerto Rico is pure [and dreary] Euro, read the game description and weep:

Carcassonne gets pretty cut and thrust, especially the battle for farms. It is defo a Euro game though.

von Schwartz ver 210 Jul 2021 5:43 p.m. PST

Looks like those kind of empire building games popular for computers.

Indeed. I've never managed to win a game of Catan, but I'm pretty good at Carcassonne.

My interest is there, bought a few over the years to play with the family. They did not take to them and now I have a handful of Eurotrash games laying around. Need to sell eventually.

Ticket to Ride is a fun game, if a little bizarre when one thinks about the details, where the "best" train route from San Francisco to Miami is via Vancouver and Montreal. huh? laugh
