…After The Assassination Of Its President? "THE US could send troops into Haiti after the bloody assassination of President Jovenel Moïse who was gunned down in his home. It is feared the Caribbean nation could be plunged into chaos after the killing which has shocked the world – and experts have already raised the prospect of a Western intervention. Professor Robert Fatton, who has written several books on Haiti's turbulent history, grimly said the situation is likely to "degenerate" and the country to be "plunged into chaos"…" Main page link Armand |

Please, no. It was a brutal thug who got assassinated. Let the Haitians sort things out without help from a big Brother. This ain't 1927. |

If Hati descends into chaos & civil war, people that have a problem with refugees & asylum seekers now will be less than pleased when a nation practically on their doorstep starts a flood of desperate people trying to escape the violence. Damon. |

They're already coming in over our Southern Border, as well as via other avenues, and have been for some time. I agree, let Haiti sort their own issues out. |

Why would Haitians come over the southern border? |
Kevin C | 07 Jul 2021 7:20 p.m. PST |
Why not -- it worked out so well in 1915 and 1994 (sarcasm intended). Although from a wargaming perspective, the U.S. involvement from 1915 to 1934 is where some of the U.S. marines greatest heroes cut their teeth (Chesty Puller, Daniel Daly and Smedley Butler). By the way, if he were still around, I think that two time Medal of Honor recipient, Smedley Butler (who, as I said, served in Haiti with distinction), would agree that going into Haiti another time would be a mistake |

I'm there with you Kevin. Bringing stabilization to A'stan worked out so well let's do it again but closer to home this time. That way the troops can have leave in between time sorting out something we don't understand. |

"Why would Haitians come over the southern border?". Because they can, and also because they know when illegally entering our country via that entry point, they'll be granted entry with NO questions asked, bused or flown to wherever they want to go for free within the USA, AND be given financial aid, etc., which even unemployed and homeless/veteran Americans can't get. |
Zephyr1 | 07 Jul 2021 9:35 p.m. PST |
""THE US could send troops into Haiti after(…)" It'll probably happen, because it's an easy political press "win" to distract from other issues an administration doesn't want in the news. And it's unlikely there'll be fierce armed resistance like other 3rd-world hornet nests can respond with when poked… |
Prince Alberts Revenge | 08 Jul 2021 7:17 a.m. PST |
Why would Haitians come over the southern border? Why? Because it's the preferred route/method for most people crossing illegally into the United States. There is general lack of awareness regarding this. Individuals from Asia, Europe and Africa are often encountered crossing the US border with Mexico. Those organizations running smuggling operations along the border have largely effective processes in place and those looking to cross go there for those services. |

And how many times has the US intervened in Haiti? How many years occupied it? Does the end result ever change? |
Legion 4 | 08 Jul 2021 8:48 a.m. PST |
Agreed … Haiti is like A'stan to a point… no matter how much time, money, effort, etc., is sent/spent there, by gov'ts, NGOs, etc. You will never be able to 'fix" it. That seems to be clear. But from what I can tell a lot of missionaries go there to help. But again, seems the end results are the same. |
Major Mike | 08 Jul 2021 5:06 p.m. PST |
Fix is not in anybody's interest. Example: NGO arrives at refugee camp after earthquake. Oh, these poor people have no place to go to the bathroom, we shall get funds and build them a bathroom. Multi-stall bathroom built, everyone slaps themselves on the back for a job well done and they leave. No plans ever done for servicing the bathroom (pumping out the holding tanks) so, soon all stalls are overflowing with filth. Now, you would think an enterprising person would have come up with the idea of charging a small usage fee in return for them keeping it functional and clean, but, no one can be bothered. So, the NGO got paid, foreign volunteers built it, and the locals used it till it could not function anymore. The only interest anyone has is if they can make any money on such a deal. |

We sent troops to Haiti in the early 90's so it wouldn't surprise me if we did it again, but I really hope we don't. Next to Somalia, Haiti is the next country on my "Yeah this place is a hell-hole sh*t list"…. |

The only interest anyone has is if they can make any money on such a deal. That seems to be the situation … and has been for a very long time. With no change in sight … "No matter how bad it gets … someone makes a profit…"… "Yeah this place is a hell-hole sh*t list"…. I understand that is the going evaluation of many that were there, in either place. Plus there are many more that fall under that moniker … |

Lots of money to be made by unscrupulous people with a war in Haiti. It will be one big money laundering operation for certain charities named after certain politicians. The swamp will be happy. |
Legion 4 | 10 Jul 2021 11:20 a.m. PST |
Yep as I said … "No matter how bad it gets … someone makes a profit…"… That must be the norm in places like "the swamp". At least I'd think so ? IIRC POTUS Truman said something like, "You show me a rich politician … I'll show you a crook !" … I guess on their salaries today they can afford multi-million $ mansions, and/or 3-4 homes, etc. |

It's not the millionaires who become politicians that is the problem, but the life long politicians who become millionaires from public service that is a problem. |

" I guess on their salaries today they can afford multi-million $ mansions, and/or 3-4 homes, etc." They don't get rich off their salaries, they get rich from the insider trading they are legally allowed to do… |
Legion 4 | 11 Jul 2021 8:30 a.m. PST |
but the life long politicians who become millionaires from public service that is a problem. USAF +1 They don't get rich off their salaries, they get rich from the insider trading they are legally allowed to do… Yes my comment about their salaries was hyperbole of course. We all know the Congress makes the laws. And it is to no one's surprise they vote in many things that benefits them … and often. Not always for the people who they are elected to represent. Of course this is nothing new. And looks like it will continue the be that standard for many. Insider trading is just one aspect. Large amounts of $ "donated" to their campaigns, kick backs on contracts, etc., etc. A lot of dirty hands pretending to be lily white … |
