Ged sent me this pic from a new range on the Gringos 40 website. They are USAF aircrew, but I imagine they would equally do for Army or Marines. This chap is the more clerically inclined of the bunch, with his notepad and relaxed look. The others look more "involved" shall we say?

I need 28mm 1940 French ground crew for an airfield scenario. While I am at it, I need 28mm 1940 German Pioneers constructing a bridge for a crossing the Muse scenario. As far as I can tale nobody makes these including Warlord.

and here we have another addition to the USAF in Vietnam range. Four of five are active aircrew and wearing body armour. One also has an oxygen mask, so I guess he is not a helicopter pilot!

Here we have a nicely modelled door gunner;

Nice figure of "wenchturner" !… But if any devise/machine, etc. is not properly maintained it's just a big paperweight …

Of course with aircraft MG gunner figure … who doesn't like MGs !?!?!😁

Yes, especially with aircraft if you have a problem with staying in the air … you could be in for a world of hurt.

At least on the ground in an APC, MBT, truck, etc., you won't fall from the sky. None the less, we spent a lot of time doing daily, before, during and after Ops maint. You don't want to blow an engine, throw a track etc., at the wrong time. And some times it still happened … frown

That is what is so terrifying about helicopters, they have no inherent lift. Other than contra-rotate, if anything goes wrong, you are aerodymically a brick and Newton takes over. An engineless plane has some glide potential while the wings are still on….and you can eject upwards unlike in a "chopper" and descend in a chute.

Yes auto-rotate, by basically taking the blades out of gear. And use the aircraft, wind, etc., to make a controlled "crash landing". 😖 Takes some skill on the pilots' parts. The weather conditions and as always a little luck … Never happened when I was cargo in any chopper[UH-1s, CH-47s, UH-60s, OH-58s and one USAF Jolly Green Giant HH-53]… Thank the Gods !!!! 🙏

I have exited an aircraft in flight [C-130 & C-141] but that was during jump school at Benning. We had to jump but not because the aircraft was in "trouble".

The parachute instructors/Jump Master said, "Once you are on this aircraft, the only way off is out the doors !" …

and now a downed pilot hoping to avoid the Hanoi Hilton if in NVN, or just disappearing as another MIA, if in the South. I seem to recall that if he is downed in Laos, and captured, no one got back?

I somewhere recall reading that, for helicopter crews, the nylon in jungle boots was considered a fire risk and that all-leather boots were the regulation. But a quick Google check show plenty of wear for both! I suspect leather did not survive too well in the local climate

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse25 Aug 2021 3:23 p.m. PST

All looks good !

Jungle boots in that climate are superior to the old leather boots. I worn mine not only in Panama and Korea, but back stateside when I could if authorized. At Benning[now to be called Ft. Moore], I wore them until the day I ETS'd …

jammy four Sponsoring Member of TMP27 Aug 2021 7:11 a.m. PST

thanks Legion 4…………the Jungle boots were a surefire hit.and much more comfortable. do you have a operational pair still??
