All,

Following on from the useful suggestions about my Spanish army in my last post, I thought that this week i'd follow up with a similar post on my French Peninsular Army

So far, i've got 25 battalions of infantry, 5 units of cavalry and 2 batteries of artillery.

Apart from 3 battalions of guard grenadier-chasseurs and 2 units of dragoons, the army is identical to Bessieres Corps at the Battle of Medina De Rioseco.

So – what should I add next?!

Regards

J

Great looking army

You know, you can never go wrong by adding a few dragoons or cuirassiers

I'd say it was time for some Josefinos. They weren't great troops, but it will give your army some flavor.

Nix on cuirassiers. They were thin on the ground in Spain.

Dragoons. The workhorse cavalry of the French armies in Spain. You never have too many line infantry, dragoons and 8 pound foot batteries.
For color, I'd look for Swiss or Rheinbund.

If its just the Peninsula you're after then probably some Confed of the Rhine battalions might add some variety? Or just more line?

If you ever plan to get into the mainstream campaigns in central Europe then you could add more artillery, some Hussars, Cuirassiers and Young Guard battalions are useful post 1809 when they fought in most actions. Also some Confed of the Rhine add real colour.

Jhehrmunds, must hef Jhehrmunds. Especially the polyglot Battalion of the Princes.

Also, possibly Neapolitans.

I believe the 2e Hussards are very popular.

Were not the Vistula Legion in Spain pre 1812? Pretty or should I say Handsomely dressed chaps and VERY good fighters. Go for them.

The German Division or some Poles

Specialist corps- some engineers/ sappers-miners; a short pontoon train; some pro-French miquelets and of course, there is always, a version of Blackadders Inquisition Court roaming about the place.

Should produce some invigorating scenarios between them!
