From this blog, a header painting- a photograph (you can just see the gilded frame has been caught on the left) which I've never seen before.

Clearly a camp on a major river, but I'm not familiar with it or the nearby city-scape.

Can we identify the scene and time/dated. The red vest and white undress cap probably indicate a very early time, just guessing.

No I don't want to know it's daytime…
thanks dave

PS- The blog posts a number of period artefacts (see I can spell…) of interest.

Looks like a French Revolutionary War or early Napoleonic era painting. I sent an e-mail to the blog owner asking what the painting is. If he's a TMPer then maybe he'll post his answer here or send it to me to post.

Heh thanks all.
I tried searching for a lot of things but nothing popped; so there ya go!

'Louis Albert Guislain Bacler d'Albe' no less.
link

Bacler d'Albe had an exceptional longevity with Napoleon, present with him at the siege of Toulon in 1793, he worked directly under N. orders from April 1794 to March 1814. He was in the small intimate circle of his "inner cabinet."

Man what a talent.
Ironic I'd been reading his bio recently, but incompletely, as I was researching the extended of the Imperial Household and E-M-G.

cheers again,
dave

Strangely the National Archive doesn't provide a large res pic; I'm yet to try Yandex but it often comes thru.
