I've been considering moving up to 1/1800 miniatures for WW2 actions as my 1/3000 miniatures, much as I love them, don't have the visual appeal I'd like.

As my main thing is DD/CL actions between the Royal Navy and the Kriegsmarine which typically have no more than four or five ships on the table 2 DDs a side get rather lost on a 6' x 4' table.

To test the water I ordered a small number of ships from Blitzkrieg Miniatures – link – which arrived today. The DDs are between 5-7 cms long, the CL is just over 9.

I have to say I am very impressed – I love the size and the details are lovely. We'll see how they paint up.

Crown Colony class CL:

2 J/K/N class and a G/H class DD:

3 1936A Type DDs:

The CL was £3.75 GBP (about $5 USD) and the DDs are £2.08 GBP (just under $3 USD) each. I have no connection with Blitzkrieg Miniatures apart from being a customer, but I thought I'd share in case anyone else out there was considering 1/1800 as a scale.

Hehe – they do look nice, but I'm withholding judgement until I've painted them up and had a couple of games.

One thing I forgot to mention is that they also come with very nice clear acrylic bases etched with the ship's class. I won't be using them but they are a nice little touch.

Blitzkrieg also make carrier aircraft to park on the decks of your carriers. I love them.
