This looks like an interesting movie, a "Saving Private Ryan" from the Soviet viewpoint set in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

I'm in. The author seems to have forgotten that Patton launched Task Force Baum on a mission to rescue his son-in-law.

Hmm … pretty good lie.
Actually, in the Russian box office, the film is called "Brotherhood".
Rescue operations in the event of a plane crash were carried out in any case, regardless of whether the pilot was the general's son or not (the pilot, in any case, is too expensive a combat unit to simply forget about him).
The veterans' claims to Lungin's film were that he collected in his film the most vile manifestations and actions that took place in the Soviet Army in Afghanistan at different times – into one plot. That creates a wrong picture of real events and a wrong idea of the viewer about those who fought there.
A common story, how to put together a big lie from small pieces of truth for the sake of hype and international awards.

I could get thrown into the Dawghouse for 10 years by adding on where this current thought pattern is considered daily.

I think others know who I'm thinking of without commenting.

As for the movie:

Looks entertaining.

Got to be better than any of the dribble put out by hollywood currently.

Anyone for F&F, part 12.

The story that couldn't be told in 8 movies has another sequel, will keep going into double digits, you know it will.

The movie looks interesting.

BTW – Don't forget the F&F reenactment society that seems to have branches in every major city. They have meetings near me every Sunday night at about bedtime.

Looks less like Saving Private Ryan and more like Black Hawk Down.

Regardless, it looks good, and General's son or no, is it really unheard of for military forces to go out of their way to rescue soldiers behind enemy lines? We hear of such stories all the time.

Been watching a lot of Russian movies ( see my links at WWII media) and think they have been very watchable. So would have high expectations for this one.

Judging from what Cuprum2 says, it sounds more like a Russian version of Platoon, than a Russian version of Saving Private Ryan. That said, I am still interested in seeing this movie. The Russians have produced a number of great war films in the last few years.

Have to agree about this statement and the Doghouse. I too will avoid saying anything lest I end up in trouble. That said, I'm a police officer.

There's a saying in Hollywood that goes something like, "The only sequel that doesn't make money is the last one." So as long as these movies make money, they're going to pump them out.

Well worth watching, I'd say. The Soviet involvement in Afghanistan is a fascinating period and provides a number of interesting wargaming opportunities.
