So, I think, historically, there was one German plane that didn't last long and a few British planes in the theater. No idea about the other belligerents, Belgium (Congo), Portuguese (Mozambique). But if I wanted to add some planes, can someone point me to who makes suitable models (nothing I have to 3D print, I don't own or plan to own a 3D printer). Greatly prefer medal, die-cast okay if affordable (seems to rarely be the case). Thanks. |

May I suggest that you look at 1/144? That scale provides a better forced perspective for planes in flight, may be easier to find and, if printed, will be cheaper. Wings of Glory may have BE2C in their stable of prepainted planes, but you will have to look. You can get planes printed from Shapeways, and they are probably going to be your best bet for odd aircraft. They make a BE2C, I think they make a Henri Farman, and they make a Sopwith seaplane. While it is not the type used in East Africa, I think that is inconsequential as beggars can't be choosers. The Belgians had 2 British planes, but I don't know what they were. |

The Belgians got Short Seaplanes from the Brits. The smaller version. I wouldn't bother with a plane for the Germans since it didn't see any action. As mentioned above, Henri Farman & BE2C are good suggestions for the British. |

Thanks for the info on the Belgians. OP, no planes for the Portuguese that I am aware of. |

Thanks for the info, folks. Durban Gamer, history is a starting point for gaming but sometimes I like to do some what-if gaming and, if memory serves, there was some attempt to get planes to German East Africa. So, some hypotheticals might crepe in. Thanks, jurgenation, gives me a bit more info. I guess I need to revisit Battle for the Bundu, I believe it had a bit of information about planes in the theater. And, of course, I just might extemporize a dirigible of some sort just for fun. If it hadn't been for the false radio intercepts it is very likely it would have made it all the way to its destination. |
