Not sure if this has been discussed but QRF has been releasing a very extensive range of figures for 15 mm German East Africa. Troops for India, British, King's African Rifles, Germans have all been released with the German Askaris up next. There are definitely plans for Portuguese and, I suspect, Belgians. I believe we may see Ruga-Ruga as well. Not sure yet if they will have personality packs but they might. Appropriate artillery is also being released. And, of course, lots of machine guns.

They are also releasing African 'scenics' soon that I am pretty sure will be of a zoological nature and will have utility in all kinds of games set in Africa, not just WWI – heck, you might be able to stock a zoo!

This is not a rumor – I have been buying the range as it is released. There is a surprising variety of poses for each grouping.

I plan to adapt my favorite rules, Rank and File from Crusader Publishing, to use for the period. I think GEA is an extension of the colonial era rather than really WWI. I believe Old Glory 25s still has hard copies of the rules – or maybe it was Stone Mountain Miniatures, been a while. Can also be ordered as PDF and self-printed. I did both.

I wonder if they will release the stuff needed to be able to 'scratch' build a dirigible? And I'm going to need a few 'flying crates' in my collection.

I do believe their GEA range may end up being the most complete one out there in any scale. If not, it will be close.

Given this has been a period of interest for a very long time and 15 mm being my primary scale, you can color me Very Happy.

Thanks for the head's up. The figures look to have been sculpted by Martin Baker, judging from the pictures? Would be great to see them painted up. Please share pictures of your collection!

Hello?

If I shared photos at this time all you would see are unpainted figures. I have adopted not starting to paint a collection until I have all the figures – though I am also trying to get in the habit of journaling when painting to be able to recreate a paint job later. Thus, I don't expect to start on this collection until I have several more orders in to QRF.

Just thought others might be interested in knowing this range is out there. QRF is fulfilling one of the more significant gaps in 15 mm with this release. Of course, there will always be gaps but I am happy this one is getting filled.

I am painting lots of figures of late but set 20-30 years earlier than GEA – but still for Africa. First of that lot got some base texturing this evening – though not finished.

QRF has just released German Askaris and Germans in Toppee hats (pith helmets) for GEA. And just as an aside – I painted 478 figures for Africa last month and about to head for the painting table to keep making progress. Not yet GEA, though.

Going to have to place an order – soon – for the new items.

Portugese are on the release schedule, probably next up for GEA but not next up for QRF – something about Warpac releases (Warsaw Pact?), not really much interested beyond GEA other than Vietnam (and a smallish collection of Prohibition Gangsters).

Didn't see Askari machine gun crews in the release, artillery crews, yes, but not the MG figures – maybe I just didn't see them yet or maybe they were mostly German crewed. Have to go back and check the history, I guess. Might adapt some of those artillery crews for Askari crewed machine guns if they don't release.

Still, anxiously, awaiting news about the African "scenery".

So, after the next up Portuguese come the Ruga-Ruga/Tribesmen/Porters and then the Belgians. I'd say this is stacking up to be quite the range for doing German East Africa: Indian troops, British troops, King's African Rifles, Schutztruppen for the Germans in both Sudwester and Toppee, Askari all already released and the above just mentioned that is due out. Will be communicating with them more about the possibility of some personality packs soon.

And good news on the African "scenery" front – but not yet released so I am going to hold off on revealing what I know. Let's just say I am very pleased at the first item on the list. I will be ordering in quantity.

Hi Blasted Brains. I'm curious, how do the new QRF figurs compare size-wise to 15mm Minifigs WWI British in pith helmet (sun hat)? I have a bunch of those Minifigs painted up and always thought they would look good for the East Africa campaign.

Cheers!
