…A Nuclear Plant In Southern China

"A Chinese nuclear power station is leaking radioactive gas and could become a major disaster, according to secret US intelligence reports.

Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, located in southern Guangdong province, is thought to have been leaking for at least two weeks after a French firm that co-owns the facility flagged the issue to Washington.

American agents have spent the last week monitoring the situation and have concluded it has the potential turn into a major disaster but that facility is not currently at 'crisis level'…"

Can you say Chernobyl?

There are 5 reactors of this type worldwide. 2 in China, and 1 each in Finland, France and the UK.

All 3 European reactors are thus far incomplete. Despite the:

Finland reactor having construction started in 2005.
French reactor having construction started in 2007.
The UK reactor being tentatively approved in 2016 with ground breaking in 2020.

Projected completion dates are, respectively, 2023, 2022 and 2026.

And now one of the only 2 reactors in service, both in China, is leaking radioactive gas.

Well, now we know what Wile E. Coyote is doing these days.

There is an Acme Nuclear Power Plant company? I want stock!it must be good if the ChiComs are using them as they would never endanger the environment.

Again … it was made in China … so … 😁😁

If I understand it correctly the PRC is still building factories that use massive amounts of coal ? Is that part of the Green New Deal …? Some in the USA may be upset …?

If it goes into a full meltdown, what will we call it? I believe "The China Syndrome" is already taken.

Let us hope the issue is resolved soon.

Every so often, when the mood strikes me, I binge watch HBO's Chernobyl.
"So tell me how an RBMK reactor can explode?"
"I don't know."
"Because it can't!"
"But it did."

Why worry about something that isn't going to happen?

That's perfect. They should put that on our money.

looks serious enough, and it is better to be safe than sorry in nuclear accidents.
Some large cities are dangerously close…
