…Lt. Thomas White.

"Thomas White, a twenty-two-year-old farmer in Chester County, Pennsylvania, answered the call to fight for the establishment of a new nation. The choice altered his fate irrevocably and nearly cost him his life before taking him to the edge of the frontier to start anew. Thomas White was many things in his seventy-year life: A farmer, soldier, and prisoner of war held in New York and on Long Island by the British after the disastrous Battle of Fort Washington. He was also a pioneer, schoolmaster, and father of seven. In addition to all of this, he named the town of Greenville, Illinois, and founded the first log cabin school in Bond County…."

I think I liked it better when you were posting pictures and links to other people's miniature blogs. Has TMP lost its way?

Tango0112 Jun 2021 8:50 p.m. PST

With only five threads allowed per day… it's not an easy task my friend…

Armand

John the OFM12 Jun 2021 10:21 p.m. PST

EVERYONE is limited to 5 threads per day. Not just you.

John the OFM12 Jun 2021 10:25 p.m. PST

Oh, wait. You've done 6 today, as of 1:25 Eastern Time. How did you manage that?

Tango0113 Jun 2021 12:00 a.m. PST

Now I confirm how you was at school… (smile)

I am reminded of the kid at school who did not think rules applied to him. That they were mandatory for everyone else but mere guidelines and suggestions for him.

Hey, remember this post by you below?

I play British Grenadier. See our FB group. Command radius for all generals is 12 inches. I'll share some thoughts later on command.

I thought you were going to write the definitive guide to navigating that overpriced, inscrutable set of rules which though beloved by AWI experts is mysteriously never supported by its author or any of its fans.

John the OFM13 Jun 2021 9:03 a.m. PST

I have all the scenario books for BG.
I've long gone past searching for the perfect set of rules that captures every single nuance of the AWI. It's too embarrassing when you halt the game for 10 minutes trying to find "reaction to being charged while already in melee" and stuff like that.

The scenario books, on the other hand, give maps, OOB, strategic insight, etc.
I'm a big fan of BG, but not so much the rules. grin

Au pas de Charge13 Jun 2021 9:09 a.m. PST

I have those scenario books too.

Again, the author made the mistake of attempting to sound like a grand old hand at writing and makes an awful lot of errors which includes omitting important information to allow the scenario to flow.

I can imagine you in the hall as monitor… (smile)

Oh my goodness!
You did six the very next day also!
Wow! I guess you really are special!

historygamer14 Jun 2021 4:32 a.m. PST

Actually, the FB page is rather successfully, with people joining all the time. The rules are great and hit the mark for people who know and understand the period. To each his own.

Tango:

I'm curious. You post on TMP all the time, yet I feel like we know nothing about you. Maybe some context would help.

Are you a gamer? If so, what period do you play? What scale? Favorite rules? Do you paint your own stuff? How about posting pictures of some of your games?

Just trying to put some context and info to you.

John the OFM14 Jun 2021 10:58 a.m. PST

If I were a hall monitor, I would be hitting the [!] button on you and reporting you to Bill. But I haven't, and I won't.
Indirectly, I have heard from the Lord of the Spreadsheets on, ahem, another site, that you have posted more than the permitted five posts per day at least 6 times.
But again, I'm not alerting or complaining to Higher Authority.
I'm simply wondering why you post 6 when the permitted number is 5. I thought that this policy was automatically maintained, but it appears to be on the Honor System.

John the OFM14 Jun 2021 11:01 a.m. PST

As for rules preferences, I can easily see how some would find TSATF and Age of Reason too symplistic, and that's ok. We like both and they give great games. And after all these years, we don't have to halt the game to puzzle out an obscure situation.

historygamer14 Jun 2021 11:38 a.m. PST

I'm curious about Tango, what he plays, etc. I feel like I know nothing about him as a gamer.

Tango0114 Jun 2021 3:19 p.m. PST

"Are you a gamer?…

Yes, I am

If so, what period do you play?….

Napoleonic but Fictional…

What scale? ….

1/72

Favorite rules? ….

Mine

Do you paint your own stuff?….

Always…

How about posting pictures of some of your games?…

There are plenty on TMP… you have to search them…

Thanks for asking…

John… don't be angry… I'm kidding with you… (smile)

Armand

John the OFM14 Jun 2021 10:34 p.m. PST

Yes! 6! Are you going for more?
In any event, you show Bill! He can't tell you what to do!
Sneak one in an hour two in advance, and then pile on!
Dude!

Au pas de Charge15 Jun 2021 1:43 p.m. PST

Actually, the FB page is rather successfully, with people joining all the time.

Do you mean this group?

The rules are great and hit the mark for people who know and understand the period. To each his own.

I feel like you've made snobbish, dismissive statements like this before about these rules. However, the question wasnt whether they're a must for the AWI cognescenti, I accept that all 55 global AWI gaming experts both use and adore these rules, rather the question is, for the rest of us who are not AWI masterminds, why is it, if they're so fantabulous, that no one bothered to really review them online or do demos? They've been a round for a while and just about every other popular rules set has loads of reviews etc.. (Well except for Empire but that's a whole 'nother can of grapeshot)
