It very much depends on what sort of action you'd like, Field Marshall. If you'd prefer the "Heavy Metal" then certainly Denmark Strait and River Plate fit the bill very nicely. If you'd like something more esoteric, then the following may be worth considering:
LOFOTEN ISLANDS ACTION (April 1940) RN: 1 x BC (Renown), KM: 2 x BB (Scharnhorst and Gneisnau). Germans withdrew after damage
CONVOY WS5A (December 1940): RN: 1 x CA (Berwick) 1 x CL (Dunedin), KM: 1 x CA (Admiral Hipper). Berwick damaged.
CONVOY HX106 (February 1941) RN: 1 x BB (Ramillies), KM: 2 x BB (Scharnhorst and Gneisnau). Germans declined action
CONVOY SL67 (March 1941) RN: 1 x BB (Malaya), KM: 2 x BB (Scharnhorst and Gneisnau). Germans declined action
For CL/DD actions there are many, but as I love smaller actions, I'd suggest:
HAISBOROUGH SANDS (December 1939) RN: 2 x DD (Juno and Jersey), KM: 2 x DD (Z10 Hans Lody and Z12 Erich Giese). Jersey heavily damaged
CONVOY PQ13 (March 1942) RN: 1 x CL (Trinidad) 1 x DD (Fury), KM: 3 x DD (Z24, Z25 and Z26). Z26 sunk, Trinidad damaged (after torpedoing herself yes, really!)
ILE DE VIERGE (April 1944) RCN: 2 x DD (Haida and Athabaskan), KM: 2 x TBD (T24 and T27). Athabaskan and T27 sunk)
ACTION OFF BERGEN RN: 2 x CL (Diadem and Mauritius), KM: 3 x DD (Z31, Z34 and Z38). All ships damaged
That should be enough to be going on with :)
For good books I would recommend two in particular which cover these (and many others, including larger engagements):
The German Fleet at War: Vincent P O'Hara, Naval Institute Press 2011
Destroyer Actions: Harry Plevy, The History Press 2006
I've done many of these actions myself and they're great fun, besides being a little out of the usual.
Best wishes,
Nick
