Howdy,

A game from three years ago; it does not seem that long.

Torik's Raid: The wily Viking Torik Broknose and his brother Angmad raided England and pillaged a monastery to celebrate Lindisfarne Day. They are on their way back to their ships with the loot, when they encounter elements of the fyrd (local militia), under the command of their old foe Sir Robert.

The game was played at the Hobbytown in Frederick, Maryland. The rules were So Convenient for Hewing, with 15mm Essex figures (Painted by Evil Bob (aka Bob Chicka)).

Viking forces consisted of Torik and Angmad, both as Senior Leaders. One unit of 8 Vikings (Veteran, armored & shielded), One unit of 8 warriors (with shield), One unit of 8 archers, and a train with the loot.

Fyrd forced consisted of Sir Robert as a Senior Leader, One unit of 8 warriors (armored & shielded), two units of 8 warriors (with shield), and one unit of 8 archers.

The Viking objective is to get their loot off the far side of the table, while the Fyrd objective is to prevent Viking success.

Viking success.

Photo 4 – Vikings cross Warwick Bridge and deploy for battle, the Fyrd has also moved to deploy

When the battlelines clash, the Fyrd is driven back with loss in disorder.

Photos 5-7 show the clash of arms.

Sir Robert rallies the fyrd for another go, but the Vikings move the train with the loot off the far end of the table. Victory for Torik Broknose.

It was a fun game.

It looks like a bloody affair.

Howdy,

The casualty figures indicate where a figure was killed. So only a handful of figures killed.

In So Convenient for Hewing other markers indicate:

Yellow – Cower

Red – Panic

Green – Failed morale

A brief summary:

Figures with yellow markers must be rallied by a unit leader or a senior leader.

Red markers turn yellow at the end of a game turn.

Red markers and killed figures from combat or shooting is a cause for a morale check.

A unit failing morale gets two green markers. One marker is removed at the end of a game turn. Units having green markers are treated as green, as they recover from the morale failure.

Out of curiosity, wgat was the size of the table? TIA

Howdy,

This was 5x6 ft, two folding tables side by side. The scenario is written up in the rules on 4x6 ft.

Sorry for the odd question, but do you know where you got your road? I picked up the same roads at a flea market years ago and have never seen them again until yours!

Howdy,

Sorry, I don't recall. I bought them in the 90's.
