During World War II, the Army hyped venereal disease as "the enemy in your pants" and even reported that syphilis had caused the deaths of more than 58,000 people in the United States – 14% of total World War II deaths.

During boot camp we had a hospital corpsman ("Pecker Checker") give a hilarious dissertation about the various ways you could tell them you have a social disease at sick call, all of which ended with everyone in the room knowing you caught the clap.

Not to be pedantic (oh heck yes I am being) but ships
don't have 'rooms' (unless sea-room).

Ships have compartments.
