For my British friends…………..
Did the M109 regiments in BAOR have M548 ammo carriers or were they added for those regiments slated for Operation Granby ?
Did the M110 and M107 regiments have organic M548 ammo carriers prior to Operation Granby?
Did the Chieftain armoured regiments keep the FV438 Swingfire up until Options for Change or did they convert their AT troops to Striker before they stood down ?
When did the Ferrets get retired from their liaison roles in the armoured regiments?
Did the TA Brigades for the 2nd Infantry Division (15th and 49th) get fully converted to the Saxon like the active 19th and 1st Brigades ?
When did the Saracens finally get retired from the TA and in Northern Ireland?
Was the 108 Stormer Starstreak launchers coming on line for 15th Artillery Regiment (AD) to be based on 36 vehicles or 1 battery per armoured division in BAOR , which would essentially retire the Blowpipe/Javelin batteries or were they to supplement them?

I'll try and answer some.

The FV438s were taken out of service and I don't think they were replaced with Strikers. I think the Strikers were in Recon units only. The 438s had been in their own AT Company attached to the Chieftains.

For M548s I think they were around before Granby but would need to check.

Will get back to you on the others if I can.

Chieftain Regiments did not have Striker, just the Recce Regts.

Not sure if the Gunners had M548s except 50 Missile Regt. The drops system was coming into service mid 80.s

15 Regt were a field Regt in suspended animation, 16 Regt were the cloud punchers.

The Saracen finish in NI by the late 90s, I think the TA will have had them replaced after options for change in 93 inheriting from disbanded Regular Regiments.

Ferrets went soon after Granby.

Tally Ho!

So the Abbot regiments in BAOR were supplied ammo with Stalwarts and the M109 regiments had DROPS?
Did they gather up all the 548s from the tracked Rapier batteries and put them behind the 155 and 8 inch Regiments as ammo carriers for the desert for Granby ? If you look up the Desert Rat pics from ODS, they were there for the artillery regiments for 1st UK Armoured Division .
I'm sure they went away when they converted to AS 90
and MLRS .

Roger, asking a few Gun Bunny types,

Tally Ho!

From my old BK who was 110s (32 Regt RA) Stollies and 10 Tonners (Knockers) 548s during Granby,

Tally Ho!

And from the RA FB page, AEC Militants, Bedford TM with Atlas crane, Bedford MK,

Tally Ho!

TA Saracens were as good as gone when I joined in 1979. Yeomanry (TA) Recce Regiments had already converted to Spartan for their Assault Troops and HQ vehicles.

The Stormer HVM was due to be stood up in the early 90's (pre-Options) it was to be designated 6 AD Regt. It would supplement Javelin/Blowpipe, see the notes in my document.

The GW Tps (FV 438) in CHIEFTAIN Regts we're all retired by late 80's (it seemed to be a manning issue)

TA never converted to Saxon, there was a push to do this, recruit HGV drivers etc. but again, as noted in my document, the additional 420 were cancelled to fund the seventh Chally 1 Regt.
