Using 28mm Star Wars figures with other wargame rules.

I was considering using Star Wars figures and adapting Ambush Alley's Tomorrow's War, or Warlord Games "Beyond the Gates of Antares" for ease of play, and large numbers of figures.

Any feedback on to which one may be better?

Have not played either

If you want to use with a beer and pretzels set of rules (better yet, free) there is the GrimDark 40K variant – lots of scope for Star Wars minis

There are lots of options out there, including the olde, Star Wars Miniatures Battles, Stargrunt from GZG, Galactic Heroes, etc..

The latter seem to be used a lot by one individual and his local group.

SW Minis Battles are probably better for larger groups of figs.

The latter two are probably better for skirmish games.

Stargrunt is available for free from Ground Zero Games.

Galactic Heroes from Wiley Wargames is another option.

I was thinking of using my Imperial Assault figures amongst others for Stargrave skirmishes.

What am I going to use these figures for otherwise? Is my bitterness showing? :-)

I've used Imperial Stormtroopers as various forces in the Traveller universe. I just painted them green.

Yep, they can work well for any/many troops in combat armor.

Wish there were more opponents for them in 32mm scale, especially in battlearmor.

I have a lot of the Action Fleet Star Wars figures and vehicle and I use them with my Starship Troopers minis to fight the bugs, robots, dinosaurs, etc.

Galactic Heroes is our go to for Star Wars. Although his Bigger Battles set plus GH has allowed us to fight smaller and very large Star Wars games. Awesome set of rules! His Codex book for Galactic Heroes has many Star Wars factions rated up.

Thanks.

Home grown rules here. Tend to shy away from token-heavy games.

Another enthusiastic vote for Galactic Heroes! Added bonus! Using Starfighters, the same base mechanics are playable with Xwing up to armada models. Both sets of rules are super affordable, and have lots of extras available, as well as support.

McMurray for president.

I recommend Fistrul of Lead: Galactic Heroes also, but for lots of figures you would also need the Bigger Battles rule book. The Codex Galactica book includes recommended ratings for Star Wars, Star Trek, Flash Gordon, 40K and other settings. The vehicle book has a walker included. There are several youtube videos for Galactic Heroes and Bigger Battles.

The rules are also available in PDF form if you go to the catalog pages. link

$24 USD for all four books.

There is also a free scenario book link
