Hi

I have a number of Peter Pig ship models (I think they are 1/600th scale) that have never seen action. Apart from their own Hammerin' Iron rules, what rules would you recommend? I'm looking to include forts etc. and ideally games that could be played in 3 to 4 hours.

Grateful for any thoughts.

Cheers Paul

Wargames vault has some interesting rules and scenarios

I have used both
Smoke on the water
Sail and Steam Navies
and enjoyed both

Blood, Sweat and Iron. Nice easy to pick up set of rules. Ships have data cards, which eliminates rosters. Done by a fellow in the UK, very into the topic. There is a helpful Facebook page, as well as his blog.

Easy to learn and use but, you'll probably want to make measurement adjustments.

Dahlgren and Columbiad by David Manley on Wargame Vault is very good, along with a number of other related sets of rules he has on there that touch on naval warfare of that period.

Hey there, TangoOne…after looking at the options, have you settled on anything in particular? I was about to post the same question as your OP and saw this thread. I'm looking for something that can be played in three hours or less…preferably in one or two hours. I really do like Hammerin' Iron, but it's really specific to doing the river game with their custom map board. Something production-like, with charts or data cards for the most common ships, would be nice…trying to get some novice ironclad commanders into the game.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Rob

As well as Hammerin' Iron I have Steam and Sail Navies plus Dahlgren and Colombiad.
We keep going back to Hammerin' Iron mostly due to player familiarity
