…: Highlights From the Moscow Victory Parade

"In Russia and across the former USSR, Sunday marks the 76th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany and its allies in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Parades dedicated to the hallowed day were held across Russia, with Moscow boasting the largest, with thousands of troops, nearly 200 vehicles, and dozens of aircraft taking part.

Victory Day was marked in Moscow as normal this year, with health authorities giving the event the green light amid weakened coronavirus restrictions and vaccination campaigns. A year ago, the parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory was postponed (apart from its aerial portion) until June and the anniversary of the legendary Victory Parade of 24 June 1945. The 1945 parade was the largest-ever in the Red Square's history and involved over 40,000 troops and 1,850 military vehicles.

Sunday's event proceeded like clockwork, with the clock striking 10:00 am, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and parade commander Gen. Oleg Salyukov inspecting the troops, after which Shoigu headed for the tribune to report that the forces were ready for the parade…"

Many things can be said about the Russians … but there are two that are indisputable … their women are really beautiful … and they know how to march in a parade …

Well they will not put the babushkas in the front row will they?

It is so strange that the descendants of the Red Army of Trotsky which was denied most distinctions of rank, now wear the world's most ornate full dress, with masses of medals, lace, aiguillettes, fringed epaulettes etc.

Nice boots too.

Not that strange. Russia has survived the horrors of communism and rejected that form of government. What is strange is that here in the land of the free so many now embrace the ideals of socialism.

Agree that there was way too many of different academies this time, and I'm also not sure about cossacks.
I really like that last years the troops are actuially smiling, which looks so different from Soviet times parades. A lot of time and resourxes spent on making this happening, but it looks nice.
Also seen some of the planes passing over my head flying back to their location field after the parade whan I was outside of Moscow.
As for all nice decorations, it was still there even in the Soviet times. The guys, finishing their 2/3 years service were always making ridiculous decorations on themselves, often looking like Christmass trees. I have to admit that there was a bit more of taste in Soviet times. Me, I had full set of badges and golden junior sergeant stripes instead of plain cloth ones..and a bit of tailoring on trousers back then in 1987.
