This M113 is parked in a regular business parking lot across the street from Home Depot in Concord, CA.

I don't think he would be bothered by a little gridlock. Just go over, or through, the problem area.

The neighborhood is going downhill.

There were times when I would have liked to have one of these during my commuting days.

What is an M113 doing driving around town in CA ? Private collector ? I see no bumper numbers, etc.

Has the ACAV Turret w/gun shield ! In the ROK we had the ACAV turret but no gun shield, '84-'85. I guess we'd get those if/when the kimchee hit the fan ! May be too late by then.

Stateside at Benning we didn't have the turret or shield. We were told we'd get them when we deployed for combat. We hoped they were right … You couldn't even order the turret from the supply system in the US. Only in the ROK. For obvious reasons.

I remember my Co. of 14 M113s moving along the autobahn in [West]Germany during '88 on REFORGER. We're chugg'n along at 25 mph or so. While a Porsche flies by us at probably close to 90 mph or more. I thought if he hit one of my tracks how much damage a Porsche would do ? I was always looking for a threat. It is part of your job. Of course he'd be turned into jelly, parts, bitz & pieces. But at that speed … he could have done some damage.

Legion 4, during Reforger in 1986 we had a Mercedes hit one of our jeeps. The Mercedes looked like it hit a tank, the front completely folded under. The jeep had a dented gas can over it's left rear bumper! Honestly, if your Porsche hit the 113, I don't think you'd feel it!

@Legion 4:

Concord isn't far from Walnut Creek; years ago when I was living in the Bay Area there was a military vehicle collector group that seemed to be associated with Centurion Hobbies.

It's almost worth driving to the far East Bay for a look. Thanks for the pictures.

khanscom,
Unfortunately, Centurian closed down about 15 years ago. There is a pretty large AFV collection organization in N. Cal (can't remember their name). They put on displays at the Alameda Fairgrounds.

Yes, that does makes sense … after all the M113 is armored. The Porsche not so much !

Damn right ! But I don't know how many M113s are left in the US Military inventory? Thought most if not all were gone ? But yes an M113 would be useful during all the riots, looting, etc. evil grin

That would have been very cool !!!

Neat! I have heard there were some companies there that have military vehicles that they use in the movies out there in Hollywood.
