Guys,

I'm following up on this previous thread's discussion:

With some good results to report -

The bases are from a company called Crystal Fortress, that are 3mm thick, and easy enough to pick up and/or slide along my game mats. I got the bases in two sizes – 25mm and 40mm.

Very happy with their look, and will be moving ahead on this 3mm game project now with renewed enthusiasm.

It works pretty well IMHO. Thanks for sharing.

What mat are you using? It looks quite ok for 3mm.

Repaint, thanks for checking out the thread.

Both mats are my digital texture work, or modified textures (the mat shown in the last picture above started from an image of the Patton's Bests board game map) –

Btw, I just ordered on vinyl the complete 48" X 36" version of that top 'areas-style' mat from my printers, and it ought to arrive here in a few days (I'll snap some shots with terrain and units on it if I like the color saturation – you never know completely how an image has printed out to vinyl till it's been laid out on the table for the first time).

Just love to see large units like these TD M10s and I even think I can spot the occasional M20 A/C.

All they need now is the divisional insignia of 2eme DB (left side only of course), the lettering for their names of RBFM and the naval crew. We might let you off the immatriculation numbers front and rear.

Liam, I've definitely been slacking on the insignia with these……and it feels so good! :)))

Bing!

Today was thinking, geez, these clear-based 3mm units can work over onto the winter mats too -

Needed to make some travelling boxes up for the 3mm mini bits here -

1/4" thick fun foam sheets can be pressed down against the outlines of the storage cavities, making a marked impression on the foam sheeting that can then be cut along for a custom-fitted insert to place into each compartment. The foam and clear stands have a bit of natural friction that keeps the stands from shuffling around. Of course they'll pop out if whacked or the boxes are dropped, but I suppose even foam topper layers could be custom fitted for each cavity to snug-down onto the tops of the stands if desired.

Those are super cool. I'm not generally a fan of clear basing, they seem to get too thick and catch too much glare, but those look great.

V/R,
Jack
