Missed this one. I'd say Rustler's Rhapsody

Wow, missed the poll, but cannot believe there was no consideration for "Once Upon a Time in The West".

Not only is it considered one of the greatest Westerns of all time, but many consider the opening sequence one of the greatest of ANY movie!

Well, maybe next poll will remedy this slight.

I'm with you Kim. I mentioned OUTITW in the comments on the original poll. I'm gobsmacked that it didn't advance to the finals.

I would bet that Mag7 got votes because people remember the movie, but they couldn't tell you what the opening scene is.

Mag 7 opening scene is ok, but not really the best.

OUTITW. Yup. Weeepoooooo. Weeepooooooo. Weeepoooooo.

I noticed two things rewatching it yesterday:

1. What happened to the package that got thrown out of the train?

2. Look at this version YouTube link and look at the .09 mark. Presage of death there? As in about to be hung out?

Wow,I missed this poll. But still, my vote goes for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Sergio Leone's use of sound only, no dialogue ( until Harmonica Man got off the train) is a brilliant piece of film making. I've never seen anything like it in any other movie of any genre.

I can only surmise that everyone who voted for something OTHER than "Once Upon A Time In The West" only did so because they have never seen it…

In the opening sequence to OUATITW you also have 2 great western actors – Jack Elam and Woody Strode (who also played in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders) who have no lines – just their amazing faces and expressions (hey it is Sergio Leone) before they are shot dead.

I do like Mag 7 but my favorite opening, and favorite song, is High Noon

I have to say, as many times as I've seen Mag 7, I don't clearly remember the opening sequence, now the hearse ride to the cemetery. I think I'd go with Once upon a Time in the West as well.

I'd forgotten about Once Upon A Time In The West … yes, that opening scene was excellent.
