I don't understand a single word of Russian … but this short video about the Battle of Smolensk caught my attention because of its accuracy in uniforms and weapons.

What's more…

The field hospital reflects in an excellent way the carnage of the time and the unpleasant task of doctors and assistants …

In the command tent, the stoic guards who take care of it look like old soldiers … perhaps pure chance? … or were the most veteran men chosen for that task?

Another thing that caught my attention was the "whistles" that the riders launched when attacking … as they are repeated in diversifying loads … maybe it was something common at the time? … interesting …

The panoramic view from the redoubt is great

Which is the unit of Lancers that leads one of the protagonists to attack? … Can someone identify them?

The French infantrymen advancing in line … they seem to return the fire of the Russian defenders … I understood that in a charge of that style that did not happen … reloading a weapon while walking is not easy

The charge and mel้e of the Russian infantry to the French line of advance would seem to take place more on the flanks of the formation than in the center … where the infantry formation is more closed …

Regarding the hand-to-hand combat of the cavalry … it looks more like a continuous pass of opponents and not an individual combat of rider against rider … I imagine how tiring it would be for the arm of the combatants to maintain that wear … very good the maneuver of the Russian officer rider covering his back with the saber while crouching to avoid the blow of the French opponent's saber …

Finally … how easily the French infantry know how to load and fire the Russian cannons taken in the redoubt … I understood that not all of them knew how to handle cannons …

I hope you enjoy this like I did

Lovely flim-flam filim.

The details are superb – nice to see a unicorn. I reckon the red-coated cossacks are guard.

They appear to have drawn a lot of information from: Napoleon org – Battle of Borodino – Louis Lejeune

Thanks!.

@Armand

Did you see the red-coated cossacks in the left-mid-ground of the painting?

Also – the guard in the right-foreground – kicking a fizzing bombe into the puddle!
