I recently got pulled into a Vietnam War project. Since everyone else was painting Gringo 40s figures, I thought I'd try something else and picked up figures from Crucible Crush's Black Sun range.

The figures are nice, even if the associated rules are more on the "Weird Vietnam War" side of things. Here are a few photos of my completed figures.

You mentioned getting duplicate figures. When this has happened to me, I alway contact the vendor and I have never been disappointed with their response.

I believe the Gringo figures are a little large compared to most other 28mm lines. You said Black Sun fit well. Are they larger, smaller, or spot on?

Those figures look great Dave. I too have had some issues with Crucible Crush. Bit frustrating.

Drop by Fields of Fire. You'll find a great bunch of easy going lads there with loads of historical knowledge AND some amazing modellers!

I actually like the duplicate figure better than the one that should have been included, which is why I'm okay with it.

I haven't ad a chance to compare the size yet (no in-person game for me yet). But the Black Sun figures are done by Bob Murch of Pulp Figures and those run on the large side. One of my friends compared a Flint and Feather figure to the Gringo figures and they are pretty close.

Look great!
Has anyone seen the Rubicon V.N. figures? I'd imagine they're the same as their WW2 figures.
I'm resisting the V.N. "craze" as long as I can…

Resistance really is futile… thumbs up

Vietnam has too much interesting stuff in it not to play. Even I have run role-playing games set during the Vietnan War (Traveller rules work really well for tech levels 5-7).

I'll tell you what Viet Nam was like:
Wander in to Ration Breakdown and stroll over to the cement slab with the tall roof and no walls. There's a couple of pallets of little VN watermelons. They are about the size of a volley ball. You crack one in half, reach in for the good stuff and gobble it down. I could go thru 5 or 6 before I got cooled down.
Or get up about 03:00, stroll over to the bakery with a case of C-rats and trade it for a couple of fresh hot loaves of bread. The bakers are always happy for the jelly and other goodies and will toss you the hot bread, almost too hot to hold. You break it open and eat the tasty white innards.
Or you ride shotgun on a supply truck going up north to Camp Eagle, or Quang Tri. You sit on your flak jacket to protect the 'vital' organs. A BB gun was the preferred weapon, to pick off little boy-sans. They would distract you on the drivers side then sneak up on the passengers side gas tank and insert a grenade rapped in twine. A week or a month later: BOOM!
Or you get drunk one night on Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and check out this cute looking baby-san. A week later you're in the sick call line waiting for the painful penicillin shot. The medics always got a queer little grin on their faces when they gave you the shot.
Or you are part of a squad in full battle gear, 3' between each guy, on Police Call hunting for cigarette butts and other litter.
Or you have bunker duty with hillbilly Jeff who's so happy because he just got a letter from home telling him that they got the grave site next to his dad all paid for. And he talks about it all night.
Or you are 'Shorty' Shortridge from West Virginia who joined the Army to get away from the mines where you have to crawl in carrying a ten foot bag full of coal for 12 hours a day. Your only dream is to get back to the 'World" and become a garbage man because the hours are great. Then your uncle and aunt tell you don't come back because they got a life insurance policy on you and can't get paid if you're still alive.

Nah, I just don't think that I can get into it…

cheers

ARVN.

One day. Someone will realise…..

VN, however useless they often were (stress not always (Hue, An Loc) it is like paying the Western Desert without Italians. Stalingrad without Roumanians.
