This is a 1976 Royal Navy training film on laying 'old school' naval mines from a ship. While dating from the 1970s, the 'buoyant' (floating) mines are basically WW2 type and demonstrate WW2, even WW1 practice. The cylindrical mines are influence type, probably magnetic or acoustic but could be fused with a mixture of both influences. YouTube link The ship featured is N21 (HMS Abdiel) which was officially referred to as a training vessel but which could have laid mines operationally, in the event of war. Her details are here: link This Wiki link even refers to this very film. She was disposed off in 1988. Barry |
