Years ago, there was a mention here of rules for doing West Side Story combat, i e, dancing. Manly dancing. This could also apply to Streets of Fire, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Link Wray's "Rumble" and a few others. Sharks or Jets? Any clues out there? |

Google found me this. link But nothing is available on eBay. The summary gives me an idea. The Sharks and Jets meet. Remember, in movies at this time, no firearms. So Sharks challenge Jets to a Rumble. We have scene with no actual melee, but you roll as if. Individually. When you lose, roll Courage to continue. One on one until one gang has all members fail. They slink away. But! The leader starts to snap his fingers! YouTube link And then, not Sharks or Jets, there's the City Slickers. YouTube link |

A little more bad ass. YouTube link Oh…. Forget the dancing. And we come across the immortal question, "Why is Link Wray not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?" Bilbo Baggins analyzes it. YouTube link |

A lot of the old kung fu movies were pretty much combat dancing. |

I would recommend steel-toed boots if you engage in such activity… |

A lot of the old kung fu movies were pretty much combat dancing. True. All the more reasons to have rules for it. Not enough credit is given to movies for how we craft our rules. |

For combat dancing you really need Terry Pratchet's Lancre Morris men doing the Stick & Bucket dance. |

Here's some more up to date inspiration: YouTube link Here are some really not well thought out ideas for rules, if you want to create your own game: Each dancer/fighter has a set of stats: dexterity, grace, strength, expression and cool. Dance moves are defined by a minimum score to be rolled against one of those stats, a cool score and a humility score. A dancer chooses a move, but he can only choose moves that he is cool enough to perform (an inexperienced dancer, cool=3, cannot perform a complex move, cool=5). The dancer rolls his stat (details to be fleshed out). If the dancer is successful then the other team gains humiliation, if the dancer is unsuccessful then looses a point of cool. When a team's running total of humiliation reaches a specified number, they leave in shame. |
