It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

I purchased a Zombiecide Black Beast of Argh for use with the Studio Miniatures 28mm Holy Grail line. As I feared, the Zombiecide fig is far too small by comparison to inspire much alarm, so it will need sizing up.

My rough plan was to 3d scan the Beast, size up the data file, and 3d print. I'm sure that at some point technology will make this possible. I'm just not sure if we're there yet.

Ive been told that home use scanners aren't yet up to doing this. I understand that the figure sized up will be a bit "soapy" as the exaggerated size will accentuate the limited detail from the smaller scale.

Can anyone offer some advice on this? I could go to a specialty 3d contractor, but even the one off nature of this isn't going to override the IP issue, even if I have the contractor keep the data file (so I cant make any more) and the original (so I still only have one figure.)

Can anyone shed some informed light on this?

Tks

You should pursue a different course.

Here are a couple of hard facts. First, dong the 3D scanning and printing is exactly the same as recasting. If you own the figure and only make one larger one for yourself most people would think this is ethical, but it's going to make other people nervous and could even get this thread deleted.

Second, 3D scanning is its own hobby. It's not at all ready for prime time. People who put a lot of time into it have done some great things, but not in reasonable amounts of time. You will have a lot to learn and spend a lot of time cleaning up the scan.

Now, if Zombicide originally modeled this figure digitally then you could ask them to print you one at 150% or something. They might do that, why not?

But learning 3D scanning for one figure isn't practical. And asking a third party to do a scan of Zombiecide's IP will probably violate their terms of use, etc.

We're within a few years of being able to do what you're talking about, but we're not there yet.

Take it to your dentist and see if he will scan it for you… or … Just look thru thingiverse or MyMinifactory and see if you can find something similar or even something much better.

I bought a zombicide set that someone had taken all the minis from and so I made my own, only it was mostly Skeletacide, and it worked great. if you have a printer just print something else that you like… better!

I was thinking that for the beast of Aagghh I would print out an image and glue onto a cardboard sheet on a base, as a flat. The animated sequences in Monty Python are low budget, and it would seem right to me to have a low budget beast

If you have an old XBOX Kinect or know someone who can borrow it, you can try to do 3D scanning yourself.
Here is a Youtube video on how to do that YouTube link

Just my 2 cents: Skanect software is not the best option, try ReconstructMe or trial version of Artec Studio 13 for better results.
