I am currently doing some reading on the Polish Vistula Legion history and uniforms. Can anyone suggest some good English Language references.

Good start for concise history and covering the uniforms

Guy Dempsey : Napoleon's Mercenaries, a must in my view

and a very good memoire

Heinrich von Brandt : In the Legions of Napoleon, translated and edited by Johnathan North

a fantastic read in my opinion

Both references above are excellent. Von Brandt's memoir gives some of the best available information on the war in Spain.

I've found Vincent Rospond's "Orphan Eagles" quite useful.

In terms of internet freebies, the general history of the Vistula Legions in Spain are covered quite well in:

The memoirs of Suchet in English (2 vols)

And the parts of Oman dealing with the war up to 1812 – basically Vols I-V (links on page 1 of the 'Useful Stuff' thread).

His memoires are also available in German, Brandt became even a General in Prussian service

two volumes

and other works see
