…In Afghanistan "Washington (CNN)In one of the most significant attacks against US forces in Afghanistan recently, CNN has learned that the Taliban twice targeted one of the most heavily guarded bases in the country late last month and that US military personnel working for the CIA were at the installation when it came under fire. Rockets landed near Forward Operating Base Chapman, a classified US military installation in eastern Afghanistan, and wounded seven civilians outside the base, according to a US official familiar with the details. During a second attack, a water tower was hit and a few rounds landed on the base, though no US personnel were killed or injured…." Main page link The Taliban are not stupid. They know who they were attacking …..

There is nothing more that the outside world do for A'stan. Pull out all troops, stop NGOs from risking their lives, stop most funding, etc. it's all a waste. Let them live in the Hell on Earth that they created for themselves. Until they are no longer so strongly wedded to their , tribal, warlord, mullah, etc., affiliations. Until they decide to move into the last century let alone this one. The slaughter will continue … Again, nothing we can do about it. Just keep a close eye out for terrorists/jihadis. If they decide to do something to the rest of the civilized world … that is why we have cruise missiles, JDAMs, LGB, etc. Be less concerned about CD. It is us or them … |

We just all need to come together, gather around the campfire, hold hands and sing together. Listen, learn, understand, hug alot -- It will work I am sure. They are just so misunderstood, never ever being able to express how they REALLY feel ???? |

Nick so what? We all know institutional welfare doesn't work be it for drug/booze addled bogans/chavs/rednecks in the west or for cultures like those found on Afghanistan! You can't help someone eho doesn't want to be helped. And in Afghanistan the people don't want to helped. I remember one doco where Aussie troops built a school and medical centre in one village that was split in two by a river (with a bridge) All of a sudden IEDs are killing people including children on the side where the school and medical centre are. Aussies thought it was Taliban but thrn an investigation revealed it was the villagers from the other side of the village who were jealous nothing was built on their side. They literally murdered their neighbours kids over mere jealousy! There is no helping these people.

Maybe if we just gave them some funding for gender studies… Well the USA just gave Pakistan $10 USD million for gender studies. We know how well that is going to turn out. There is no helping these people. Agree totally … |

It is a total waste of time, effort, money, and prestige to try to negotiate with them, just like the Iranians, Chinese, North Koreans, etc., etc.. Even if you do get a "deal", they will break or violate it. |

Pretty sure it was US who broke the deal with Iran! |
Dn Jackson | 11 Apr 2021 6:13 a.m. PST |
The Iranians never lived up to that deal. The last administration simply stopped pretending there was a deal at all. The current is headed back to pretending there's a deal. |
USAFpilot | 11 Apr 2021 7:19 a.m. PST |
The Iran nuke deal was always a joke. It put temporary restrictions on Iran and in return gave them permanent benefits. The deal was so bad that President Obama couldn't even garner enough votes from the Senate to make it a treaty. And if it was an actual treaty than it wouldn't have been so easy to nullify. |

"Nick so what? " Did my comment actually appear serious to you? Anyone who has actually spent time in Afghanistan would know what rubbish it has all been, even the junior officers rolled out in front of the cameras to proclaim "we built a nice school!" And whatever kit they are given, whatever training they receive once the mentoring stops kit breaks down and tactics return to rentamob! Tally Ho! |
Legion 4 | 11 Apr 2021 11:17 a.m. PST |
Dn, USAF, Nick +1 Pretty sure it was US who broke the deal with Iran! As has been said, Iran never followed the deal and had no intentions to. Have no idea who outside Iran would think allowing them to do anything that might let their fundamentalist religious theocracy get WMDs/Nukes was a good idea. |

I do, sadly, and could name them, Legion 4, but that would get me DH'd. I suspect many if not most are aware of them, and can name the Americans that think this is a good idea, since they created it, have supported it in the past, and continue to advocate for renegotiating it again now, which flies in the face of logic, but they don't care. Many decisions and policies are now being based upon emotion, and not logic and reason. |

Nick my apologies, I've seen too often people arguing how much good has been done in Afghanistan and how it's worthwhile staying there for ever to turn Afghanistan into a new Germany/Japan. It is a total waste of time, effort, money, and prestige to try to negotiate with them, just like the Iranians, Chinese, North Koreans, etc., etc.. Alas western elites follow idiotic academic schools that promote the notion that international diplomacy is not a zero sum game ad that we can all live in peace, harmony and whatever other Star Trek ideals you want to insert. Chinese, Iranians, Russians, North Koreans etc etc understand the real way of the world – power is the everything and willingness compromise is a sign of weakness that is to be exploited. |

Too often the West tries to approach various situations as if dealing with Western people, no matter how good a female office is, so many will simply speak to her male driver Tally Ho! |

Tango, in Saudi Arabia women are still stoned to death for adultery and are also executed for witchcraft. Taliban are bad guys cause they helped Saudis commit terror attacks but Saudis are good guys cause they enrich Raytheon and BAe Systems shareholders and give kickbacks to western politicians. |
