Just posted a couple of AARs for the 2nd Battle of Newbury:
- with my homebrew rules – link - with The Kingdom is Ours – link Can't say I could get along with The Kingdom Is Ours – any ruleset that needs almost 100 dice rolls to resolve a relatively simple melee isn't fast-play in my eyes. Dividing everything by 4 (dice, kills, activations) made a big difference. A few nice ideas though to steal for a new homebrew set, and I think I'd echo the discussion in another thread that the "ideal" ECW ruleset still seems elusive. Nice pictures on your blog. And some interesting thoughts on TKIO. Thanks for sharing |

Thanks for the report on TKIO. I bought these rules and they looked too complicated for my taste, so I've never used them. Now I don't think it's just me. If others like them, that's great. |

If you are aiming to do large historical battles you might want to take a look at the Twilight of Divine Right rules from the Pike & Shot Society – pikeandshotsociety.org Some information here – link and here – link |

Hi David, I apologise for possibly hijacking your thread, but I found your blog fascinating, and saw the playtest of FK&P of Adwalton Moor. As a co-author, I was, of course, interested! One of the points you raised was that combat was less bloody than TtS. I found this curious, as that was my first response when Simon proposed it. He pointed out that drawing two cards each with a 30% chance of a hit, plus a small chance of two hits, rather than one card with a 50% chance of a hit, actually resulted in more hits! I pointed out that we would need to educate people to expect more failures on individual cards, or the results might tend to depress the men a tad! Obviously we did not educate people well enough! Another puzzled question, if I may? Did your two players share the same pack of cards? We always have a double pack for each player, which changes the odds a bit. Apologies again for asking you to go back to a playtest which took place a couple of years ago, but I am genuinely curious. |

Will give Twilight of Divine Right on my next ECW outing – thanks for the heads up. Re: FK&P I think we shared a pack – but as you say a while ago. I do like card driven mechanics, faster than dice usually, and I play all my games on grids, so certainly likely to give FK&P another outing – will make sure we use two decks! Thanks all for other kind comments. |

Thanks for responding, David. If you do give FK&P another go you might like to look up the To the Strongest forum on Tapatalk. It has a couple of threads on FK&P, and Simon and I look in regularly. So if you have any queries, we will be happy to try and answer them. In the meantime, enjoy Twilight of Divine Right! |
