I see Photobucket is getting more and more "unfriendly", and by that I mean we all knew (didn't we?) that they stopped permitting links to photos on their site some time ago, resulting in broken, or unavailable images to many really great looking miniatures and battle scenes from games some time ago.

Now it seems, they're upping the ante even further by wanting to charge me for hosting my images there, which people aren't allowed to see (not sure if that is 100% correct, but that is the impression I have). Looks like I may not even be able to view my own stuff that I posted with them, unless I start paying a monthly fee, so I will be moving/switching soon.

So, which services offer the best, easiest to use, photo storing and sharing for hobbyists, and that permit others to view them, or that provide images in a format that we can link to from TMP?

Been using Postimage, great so far

I've seen FlickR mentioned too, though I seem to recall not liking some of the "features" as a viewer, back in the day when I'd run across ones hosted there.

Not sure if the issues I was concerned with (copying/downloading nice ones I liked, say like for nicely painted medieval and renaissance miniatures) still apply or not, or if things have improved.

I guess I should mention that I don't currently have a blog, though I am on Facebook.

Not sure if I have to permit non-friends to view images there or not, or if they work fine if I provide a direct image link to them, even though I typically only share my photos with friends on FB.

Flickr limits you to 1000 pics for free, after that you have to pay. Works well for me but I just went ahead and paid. Seems fair – they provide a good service and it's worth it to me.

Also, their app updates your photos automatically on Wifi so you don't have to even think about it.

Compare the price of what I use (Imageshack) annually with a few figures. OK it depends how often how you post, but, for me, this is peanuts, by comparison. They have to make a living and I do not want adverts and weird Facebook type friends etc…..

Try Pinterest, I wasn't sure if it would work but it did.

Tried from Facebook, this was the result, only a link.

Maybe it's just me but I find flickr to be clunky and not very intuitive. I use it now but there has to be a better platform and preferably one that doesn't request access to every aspect of your life.

I've used ImageBB – ibb.co – for a while, had no problems. You might want to check it out

This is from postimage. Fairly simple once you register.

The buildings are all 28mm from HGWalls except the Hovels building lower left (blue roof). HGWalls are unfortunately out of production. I have nine buildings, including one duplicate. No idea how many Herb Gundt created originally.

How about getting a Wordpress account? No need to blog, just host the pictures there.

By the by, I would strongly recommend that you do not rely on Facebook as their links (like the one machinehead posted) have a nasty tendency to change after a while.

I've had decent luck with Imgur.
